I'm 30 and I walk sideways up my stairs. I'm afraid something is going to grab me while I turn my back. I guess I still have to get used to my house.
I don't have a basement anymore but I did this until I moved out of my parents house

nope
my dad fully finished the basement to have a large dance floor, kitchenette and bar
we have many family parties there now
