Do you rent or own?
We rent (but in my MIL's house)
We have been house shopping for about 4 months now! I kinda put it on hold...I just can't see myself spending $800K on a 1 bedroom shack!

We can get a NICE home outside of Brooklyn for A LOT less...but both our families are there...and up in age. We don't want to leave.

My Mil & Fil own a bunch of proporties in the area where we live. So they let us live in one of their Apts rent free ( but we pay all bills and utilities) while we save for a house.
We try to give them rent $$ but she wont take it. She really wants us to be able to buy a nice house and put a decent amount down so our mortgage payments arent crazy.
We are very lucky to have parents/Il's like that.

We're in the same situation. We live rent-free in an apartment my MIL owns. I feel very lucky and know I should count my blessing every day, which I do. It makes it that much easier to save for a down payment.
