My DS has been a reader since the beginning. He loves books. I know he can't read them yet but he picks them up and sits and flips the pages and looks at it all.
Even at daycare they said his favorite spot is the book corner. I love this. I think reading is so important and it makes me said to think that people would just toss books aside.
I swear ... we have the same kid

Love getting books for DD. And she really loves getting them too. We read every night before bed. I even had people bring books instead of cards to my baby shower.

We have a library in our house. One room dedicated to custom built floor-to-ceiling bookcases. In addition, both DC have two bookcases in their room. We also have bookcases in other rooms. They are 10 and 7. DW reads to DD(7) every night still, after DD reads her own books, and either DW or I read next to DS (10) every night while he reads his book.

Yes!! Books are one of my fav gifts for the boys. It's educational, something you do together, doesn't take up tons of space and something you never get tired of. DS will get into a certain book that we have to read every night for a month. When he's tired of it or we get a new book he will read that one for a month. Of course we read a few a night.
This exactly. We read 4-5 books a night before bed and we all love it. It's our special time together (the same with DH and DS). I think it really helped him have such a large vocabulary for his age. He knows the books so well he sometimes 'reads them' with me... obviously he's got them memorized, but it's still cute

Now that she is older, yes. But I tried when she was younger and she wanted to turn the pages, rip the book apart, eat it.
she really had no attention span for books until almost 3

I would never EVER !!
We don't read every night like we used to - we really need to get back into it.
But BOTH of my boys have full bookshelves in their rooms and DH and I buy them, often, LOVE for them to receive books as gifts .........I always gift books.

I love buying books for little kids regardless of what I think the parents are doing at home. I usually buy a book that reminds me of the child, plus a toy or clothes based on the need.
I spoil my DD with books as she loves to be read to and loves looking at them without us reading them. If she's good, she can have a new book and she loves it. We started reading to her as an infant and she's now almost 3 and loves books.

DC#1 is almost 5 and has always loved books. Reading is part of our bedtime routine 2 books and then we make up a story together. DC#2 is only 9 months and we occasionally read together. Nothing consistent yet.

My son and I read every night before bed. He also likes to sit by his books during the day and flip through them.

DS has a lot of books and I love receiving them as gifts.
But he's just not interested in them yet. He's 10.5 months old and all he wants to do is chew on the books.  I'm happy if I can get through 2 pages.

Yes everday and night as part of bedtime routine. My dd actuly picks books up and runs her fingers over the words and babbles. Its honestly adorable. My dd loves books. I love getting them as gifts.

No I do NOT like receiving books for her. I'd rather choose them with her, take her with me or I know what I'm getting. My aunt gets her books and either she doesn't like them or I don't like them. Such a shame. My other aunt got sneaky and gave her a God loves me type book with a doll. She loved the doll and I just ignored the book.

EVERY single night since she was a NB. I'm a huge reader and a former teacher so reading is a big deal with me.
I like getting books BUT it's hard because we have such a tremendous library of children's books that it's inevitable people will duplicate what we already have.

Everyday at least 3x a day since he was 2 months old. We have at least 700 books ( I used to be a teacher). DS lovessss books.

I ask for books!
DS will sit for a long while flipping through his books and pointing at everything (he's 13 months). He will bring them to me or DH when he wants us to read with him. And every night before bed we read probably between 4 or 5 books.
I love receiving them as presents

Honestly,I think everyone reads to their child - I mean, have you ever really met anyone that says they don't?
That said - I think whether or not books are a good gift is an entirely separate question. I know personally, we have hundreds of books - more books than we could ever read honestly. Both grandmothers are former teachers, combine that with me getting books from almost everyone that attended my baby shower, the constant scholastic orders, book fairs etc. etc. we are BOOKED out LOL!!! Almost any time we are given books as a present (which is rare honestly) we already have a few copies already! I also say this is the case from many of my friends. I would say you have to know who you are buying for whether books are a truly worthwhile present. And, trust me, for the previous poster that said they don't take up space - they sure do in my house!

Every day, several times a day. It's part of our nightly bedtime routine but we also have a basket of books in the den. He takes my finger and pulls me towards the books. He goes through times where he has one favorite but then It might switch. DS is almost 2 and he loves the Llama Llama books but he also loves pointing at the pictures and naming them. He has favorites for funny reasons- he likes Cloudy with a. Chance of meatballs because it has pictures of dogs lol

Love books as gifts. DS brings me books to read all the time, it's one of our fav things to do together! I think most little kids love being read to, & it's fun to pick out books you love reading to your LO to give to someone else to enjoy!
