Do you put money...

in those tip jars at delis, Starbucks, DD, etc?

I usually don't. I only feel bad when I go through the DD drive through because I go most mornings, but there is no way I can reach over to reach it! Sometimes I just drive off without the change, unless I pay with a $10 or something.

Re: Do you put money...

I usually don't. I tip wait staff because they are providing service for me throughout an entire meal and are generally earning less than minimum wage. It's assumed that tips will compensate for that. A barrista at Starbucks should be earning an hourly wage above what a waiter or waitress does and they literally serve me for about 15 seconds (I just get regular coffee.....)

Don't even get me started on that Cold Stone tip jar Chat Icon

No. They are already getting paid to do their job and I think it's actually kinda rude to solicit tips like that. That would be like me putting a tip jar out on my desk in my office. Tip me for sitting here and answering my phone aka doing the job I'm paid to do anyway.

I went to Chinese food restaurant that only does pickup (no delivery) and they had a tip jar out. I thought, "well, if your lazy azzes delivered, then maybe you'd get tips!!!"

Re: Do you put money...

Nope, don't do it. They are getting paid for the job. I will tip my coffee truck guy at the LIRR station, he makes my coffee perfect, has it ready for me, and I can skip a few days paying him if I don't have the $ that morning...so I will tell him to keep the change (geee, how generous, LOL)...and I use to waitress for years, you would think I would be more generous, but I am too critical (ouch) and DH use to own a restaurant and I think he OVERTIPs and that makes me crazy...

Re: Do you put money...

I put pennies into the give a penny take a penny jar because when I was little I would use them, so I feel like I am paying back for people today. I will sometimes (rarely) put the loose change into the tip jar if I don't have pockets in the outfit I have on.

I don't tip unless they do something above & beyond. For example, my egg guys in Penn station will see me at the end of a long line. Make my egg whites and hand them to me before the line has even moved up. That IMO deserves a few dollars a week. On the other hand, I haven't changed my breakfast order in over a year since that would break up our perfect relationship and they'd have to ask me what I wanted.

Sometimes - I opened a chase acct w/ direct deposit and got 52 coupons for a free large DD coffee and donut. When I use those coupons, I feel bad not leaving them any money - even if it is just some change. Chat Icon

Not usually. Every so often I'll throw my change in, but only if the person helping me is really friendly.

Yes. They get my coffee ready as soon as I walk in the door, so I tip $1 once a week.
