Do you make decisions about the future assuming you will conceive?
Just wondering, DH needs to get a new car, his lease is coming up in August. Since we are TTC I think we should consider that we could have a baby and factor that into how much we should spend on lease payments and what type of car to get. Do you find you make different decisions since you are TTC than you would have before you starting TTC? Just curious- I feel like I factor that into every decision- am I the only one?

I def consider it. Like you guys, DH is getting a new car this week, we are TTC #2.
We thought about the payments, and how if all goes as plan we have to factor in the expense of having two in daycare for a year.
Thats just one instance, but yes.

In that instance, I would. We are loosely planning a vacation in August, hoping that I will be pregnant and will do something more local.

This! I've planned our vacation for this summer & next. I'm hoping to get a BFP so we can switch next summers for something local.
to all!

Privately, between DH and I, we do plan based on the assumption that at any point I may be pregnant.
For other things like vacations with friends, weddings I am in and other stuff that involves other people we pretend like we aren't TTC and make plans as if we won't be pregnant. We'd rather not raise anyone's suspicions at this point.

I think in terms of a car and money it's a good idea to consider the fact that you're TTC. Other things I dont really try to factor it in, like vacations because it's out of my control and they are more easily altered or changed.

We got a new car in May, and got married in July... we definitely factored in the kind of car because of our plans to have children...

Re: Do you make decisions about the future assuming you will conceive?
We really didn't - if anything we assumed it would take us a lot longer to conceive. The only decision where I let TTC factor in was when we considered moving from our doorman/elevator building to the west village which would have been a walk-up apartment. I was hesitant to make that switch envisioning being pregnant/having a baby in the next year or two. I'm glad we didn't make that move!

I agree. With the car I would keep in mind that at some point you may have a child. Same thing with living situation and money.
I already know how quickly life can change for the better and for the worse. Nothing is guaranteed. So when it comes to most things I just assume that I won't be pregnant and I don't worry about it too much.

Yep, shopping for an SUV as my lease is up soon. We kept going back and forth between an SUV or the camero. Not sure how my eventually preggo azz is gonna get in and out of that one.

Re: Do you make decisions about the future assuming you will conceive?
I certainly would. big decisions anyway. Esp like the car leasing you mentioned. I would def factor that in.
When we moved last April I knew the room that would be a baby's room one day... and so when I chose the paint color, I picked a color specifically so I wouldn't have to paint it again for when the time comes. I didn't go decorating the room or anything for a baby though. I put a desk and a daybed in there... NOTHING baby like. But I "saved" that room for the baby.
I would def make the large decisions and factor in the possibility of tomorrow... but I wouldn't do anything like pick out bedding and furniture for a baby or make a baby registry, etc.

Re: Do you make decisions about the future assuming you will conceive?
We leased our car 3 years ago. At the time, we asked about its capacity to hold car seats, etc.
Well.... we are at the point nearly 3 years later where the lease is almost up and we'll be getting another car.
As luck would have it, our lease goes up right before my due date! Goes to show though.. it took a long time to get to that point!
In trying to have a baby, I did make some future plans based on it, though looking back I realize on how many decisions were based around a baby that didn't really need to be.

Re: Do you make decisions about the future assuming you will conceive?
I actually realized the other day that just about every major decision that I made in the last 10 years was based on the fact that I want to me a mommy one day.

Re: Do you make decisions about the future assuming you will conceive?
Yes, yes, yes! DH has been on the hunt for a new car. He wants a really small SUV that good on gas and cheap. I want to get something big enough that it will last us through two or three kids. It's really hard to think that long term but we're trying. I think in terms of not wanting to have to upgrade in three or four years if we're on one income but DH isn't quite with me there.
I'm a bit freaked out that he actually wants to buy a car TONIGHT and I'm hoping for a BFP in the next day or two. We have spent soooo much time considering every scenario and what will be best for us. It would be so much easier if we knew exactly when we would have each of our future kdis!

Yes. I won't book a cruise because pregnant women can't cruise beyond 24 weeks.
We leased a Prius last summer b/c we knew it would help us save money.

Re: Do you make decisions about the future assuming you will conceive?
We have done things like up our savings every month and have started doing the little things arounds the house we know we'll never get to after... and when it was time for a new car we got something we knew would be safe. Some of these things we did before TTC but knowing that we would want to eventually...

Re: Do you make decisions about the future assuming you will conceive?
Definitely! The way I see it, it is something that will happen in the near future (hopefully). I also have to renew my lease in June, and I am thinking something that a car seat can fit comfortably and that the payments are manaegagle. I am a planner so I TIA with thinking ahead.
