we have done both- and currently do both
I wont lease again - only b/c I don't drive to work anymore- and I would rather buy a pre-owned car and pay it off rather then lease again

I've only paid in full for a car, but if that was not an option, I would finance and pay it off as quickly as I could. I prefer to keep my cars for a long time and not have a payment.

I have never leased.
I tend to keep cars for a long time, so financing makes sense to me. I also don't want a never ending car payment. while it might be nice to get a new car every 3 years - you're paying for that luxury, bigtime! I haven't had a car payment in 5.5 yrs.
5.5 years x $300 a month (avg) = $19,800!
eta: I just figured out that I've had my car for 114 months. that would have cost me $34,200 in lease payments (at $300 a month), plus whatever I would have put down initially. my car was more than $10K less than that, and I haven't put anywhere near that much $ into it.
