Do you have an xmas spending limit?

I try to impose one, but everyone always goes over it,especially my FH. We'll impose a limit of $200 and he'll spend $1000. I get ******, but how pised can you get when you're being showered with gifts?

I told Fh that if we do go away that will be our christmas/hanukkah gift to one another, and if that's not enough, maybe we'll plan a special dinner wherever we go.

But I just know he's gonna buy me a gift and it drives me crazy!

in my family I suggested a secret santa, so everyone buys one gift. My sister said "ok, I'll do that, but I'm still going to buy gifts for everyone!"

haha

I like buying gifts and getting gifts, but as I get older, I really just enjoy the time together more, and the music, the tree, the fireplace. For the first time I really don't have a Christmas list. I mean there are a few things I want, but I don't really care if I get them or not.

Re: Do you have an xmas spending limit?

This year we are picking one person in the family to exchane with at my Mom's house Christmas day. I think we will limit the gift to $100.00 or less.As for my kids???/Who knows.I try to stay around 500.00 as Christmas is when I usually get them what they need for the year.

Re: Do you have an xmas spending limit?

$0

I am not exchanging gifts this year

I always get my brother and sister super nice gifts- and never get anything back- so I am done- I know that's not the sprit of the season- but I really don't care

Jake and I aren't exchanging- I don't need anything and he is ordering himself a new car- so he doesn't need anything

and my Dad does not allow me to by him gifts

this is the easiest year- I am not even going to the mall!

Re: Do you have an xmas spending limit?

I put aside $1K for Christmas. That is for everyone we have to buy for, including ourselves.
We do secret santa in both families, so that helps.

Oh, I thought you were talking about the amounts we spend for other people.

I don't think you can put a limit on how much others spend on you. Think of it this way- it's nice that they can and that they want to. Chat Icon

Well I mean if you say to DH, or to close family "Let's only spend X amount"

No one ever sticks to it, ever!

my siblings and our SOs are doing a secret santa this year because $ is tight.

We have a $50 spending limit.

Re: Do you have an xmas spending limit?

If I am giving gifts I like to give very nice gifts so I just buy what I like to give as gift. No set limit for Christmas.

Re: Do you have an xmas spending limit?

Yes.

My b-day is in December and his is in January - so we decided not to exchange b-day gifts this year and we set a $600 limit to spend on each other for Xmas.

As for the rest we budgeted $1000 for family and we can't go over it expecially since we are buying a house and will close in a couple of months.

Re: Do you have an xmas spending limit?

Not really, but I have an estimated amount I want to spend on each person. If I find something a little over that and it is something I know they will love, I just get it. DH and I are not huge spenders and I buy a lot of birthday gifts during the year, so we don't go nuts with christmas gifts.

If I agree to stick to a limit with someone and they go over it, I don't sweat it. If we made an agreement and they chose to spend more, that is their choice, I guess. I am not going to feel guilty about it.

We decided to go all out this christmas since we don't yet have that huge mortgage holding us back. It will be another story when we buy a house...

We usually only use the xmas bonus' we get and if we have extra in our pockets we will use that.
