Re: Do you ever feel like a Outsider looking in

I can see how someone could feel like an outsider on here. There are lots of private jokes and things that are publicly posted and discussed, and often other people don't know what's going on.

Ro didn't start this thread accusing people of not replying to her posts. She just said that she feels like an outsider sometimes, not just on here, but in other places too. She has a right to her feelings, even if you disagree with them or the reasons for them. No one should be told that their feelings are wrong or not too feel a certain way. Sometimes there isn't logic behind emotions.

Re: Do you ever feel like a Outsider looking in

I don't feel like an outside here because I am not invested in this enough to take it all personally. I hope I don't offend anyone by this. I think the girls and guys here are GREAT!!! But don't take anything too personally (except maybe politically debatable topics Chat Icon )

This is a great site. I get lots of information and have lots of fun on this site. If I post something and people don't respond, I don't take it personally. Just like if I post something and people do respond, I don't think they are just responding to me- Its usually the topic they are responding to.

I really like and respect all the people on the site. I never really met many of the people on the site and still, everyone here is so friendly.

However, this is a message board website. For someone like me, who hasn't met too many people in "real life", I really don't take these things personally. I am blessed with good friends in "real life" whose reactions I really care about, and they don't let me feel like an outsider.

I can understand that some people are disappointed when their posts don't get a large response, but let me ask you this- do you really need validation from people on this board? No one should take it so personally. I for one don't usually wish people happy birthdays, its not because i dislike them or think they are outsiders- I just don't know them well and I guess that is something that I would only really expect from my friends.

Maybe from now on I will start to be a little more sensitive to people and respond to their birthday posts and so forth. But no one should let this site affect them so hard- to make you feel like an outsider. There are no "insiders" besides Ron and Liz. For the rest of us, it is what we make of it.

I know I don't post as much as many of you, but I've never felt like an outsider on this site.

I know that this conversation about Ro's posts has been had many times before, but I just feel like this time, her question really was, "do other people ever feel like they are outsiders?" and the thread got turned around on her. Maybe I just take things at face value too often...

VERY TRUE

over and over and over........
So none of us are being mean here. But you can only go so far in telling someone that they are liked.....
AND when you get rude comments in return ...well that PUSHES people away

Well said (the whole post, really). I sometimes feel like an outsider, but I recognize that it is because I am not comfortable revealing a lot of personal info about myself on an internet chat board. I come on here mainly to kill time at work, get some tips, and a good laugh sometimes. I don't look for validation here - no offense to anyone, but I don't really know people on here.

I definitely understand what you're saying. I think I just interpreted Ro's original post differently than other people did.

Exactly, exactly, exactly. If you really need validation from the boards, you should concentrate more on WHY you need it and work on that.

Not trying to be mean, just helpful...

Re: Do you ever feel like a Outsider looking in

jackie,

you know i love ya, but in this instance, it started out as do you feel like an outsider. That's fine..simple question.

Then SHE turns it into, poor me, no one responded to my bday thread.

I got 2 pages and others got more.

I mean, COME ON!

if it bothers a person THAT much, don't post

Re: Do you ever feel like a Outsider looking in

I think its the way you perceive the answers. Sometimes I feel like an outsider like I dont think anyone knows my birthday or anniversary... but at the same time, I dont expect anyone to.

Re: Do you ever feel like a Outsider looking in

okay, I feel bad saying this......but sometimes I get so tired of happy birthday, happy anniversary, congrats, etc...

I almost feel like it is my duty to respond, and I don't want to say, get it out of the way, but that is kind of how I feel. I wish everyone a great day, and hope they truely have one. So I would not go by that, or that I only got 2 pages...I would probably view and not post, but I would feel guilty.

I feel the same way too, like it's an obligation of sorts to congratulate everyone on their special occasion, even if you're not very friendly with the person because it's P.C. I too genuinely wish everyone the best in all of their accomplishments and special occasions, but if I'm too busy and can't log on (whatever the case), I don't want people to feel bad or blown off because I didn't respond. It shouldn't be about a popularity contest. I'm just happy and grateful when someone does respond, regardless of #'s.
