Just curious. Due to career related reasons, not wanting a baby born in a certain month, being pregnant at a certain time, etc. will you/have you and your DH decide(d) to take a break for a period of time?

Editing post because I didn't read the question properly.

For work related would I postpone TTC? I work in accounting; we're ALWAYS the busiest during our quarter closes and year end. I was actually thinking the other day that if we did get a BFP this cycle (or next) I would be out on maternity leave during the year end close next year. It's going to be hard to train someone to cover all the reports I have to run and all my entries. BUT I still don't think I would postpone TTC so that I can be here for that.

Re: Do you ever consider pausing TTC for a month or more?

Crazy you posted this bc I just replied to another thread about this.

If I get a BFP this cycle, it looks like our baby would be due on the anniversary of my fathers death. And I don't think I could deal with that. The week before, after - fine. But on the day exactly (Which is what I found on predictor sites) I don't think I can handle that.

I spoke to DH about it and he said the due date is never exact, etc etc etc
but WHAT IF?

Not sure what to do about this cycle yet.

yep ... i was just talking about this with DH.

if we get pregnant this cycle, I would be due on/around 11/15. my brother in laws wedding is 11/9 and i would have to have a repeat csection which is usually scheduled for a week before EDD (so that would be on/around 11/8) Chat Icon

my son is the ring bearer in this wedding and my husband the best man.

i had the same thought!!! we just started ttc 2 months ago and i never really thought about when that would make the baby due etc.
but now that i am really thinking about it i realize that depending on timing, it would mean missing a very important annual business trip that occurs every January. its like the main part of my job and it sets the pace for the entire year...and its out of state (so i have to fly). once i realized this i prayed that i got pregnant right away so that i would have a baby and be back to work before the trip. but now it looks like thats not an option and god willing i get pregnant soon i will either be out on maternity leave during this trip or in my third trimester which means no flying.
but in the end, what is meant to be will be and i will get pregnant when the time is right. too hard to try to plan it all and therefore am not taking a break

well I work for baseball and if there was a month to put TTC on hold this past cycle would've been it Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon oh well! If I wind up with a BFP my EDD would be around 10/15, just in time for the World Series!! it's usually a little crazy at work until the end of October, sadly there aren't many capable "hands" to fill in while I'm out so god knows what I'd be walking back into after maternity leave Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I considered it for the next couple of months, especially since my 1st DS was born in November, but I'm not going to stop trying. Whenever it happens, it happens and that's the attitude I'm keeping Chat Icon

Re: Do you ever consider pausing TTC for a month or more?

DH and I agreed not to TRY until next September due to my job. I need to work here three years to get my clinical lisence and a maternity leave would cause havock in that plan. But we also don't want to wait so we kept the goalie pulled and are hoping it happens on it's own.

Now as you all know I am trying way more than we had agreed on. But I just can't stop thinking about how much I want kids! We shall see what happens.

i think that IF it happened, maybe it'd be a sign of a blessing sent straight from him.Chat Icon

To answer the question for me, after going thru this process for 14 months with nothing to show for it, theres nothing i personally would put ttc on hold for at this point.

Thank you Chat Icon
I just spoke to my BFF and she said the same exact thing.

Maybe I haven't gotten my BFP yet bc he wants to right the wrong of that day.

I have a time to decide... But I think we're going to ttc this month as well. I can't let the past and the chance of what if get in the way of our dreams. If it's meant to be - it will

P.S. Can't wait to meet you guys at the GTG. You think they may toss us out for staying out long talking?? LoL

Re: Do you ever consider pausing TTC for a month or more?

I'm going to pause if I don't get a BFP by march because I don't want a December baby. I know its incredibly selfish, but being born around the holidays myself, I'd rather my LO to have their own special time. Right now the way my chart is, my due date would be the later part of any given month.

I'm a December baby, too, and sort of want to put it off next month for the same reason. My birthday is 4 days after Christmas, so I was always stuck with the "combined gifts" or Christmas cards that wished me a Happy Birthday. On the plus side, both my mom and grandma are also born in that month, so I know at least my side of the family won't brush the birthday aside.

I've never considered pausing TTC for anything. There's always going to be something in the future that wouldn't be the "ideal" time to have a baby (weddings, vacations, career related issues, etc). I've had way too many issues in the past with TTC and have learned that when it happens, it will be a happy issue to work around and life will go on. Good luck!

My DH is an accountant so he doesn't want to have a baby between December through April Chat Icon I work for a school and would like to have my maternity leave incorporate my summer vacation. We were able to have my DD in May, but this time around TTC has been tougher. I really don't want to put TTC on hold, but we might have to inorder to accommodate DHs work.

Me too! I always felt like everyone thought celebrating my bday was more of a PITA than anything. You always get those combined gifts or leftover clearance from after christmas Chat Icon

Honestly its completely just a personal selfish reason. Hopefully we get BFPs soon and we don't even have to worry about it Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Same here...

I am a teacher and want to try to be due as close to the end of the school year as possible so I don't miss out on too much unpaid work time...especially since I am not tenured. So as much as I want to try now.... we will start TTC in May or June.

i used to feel this way, 100%... my original due date was in march and i was so happy bc it was after the holidays and not near anyone elses bday in our family. Now with that date approaching and STILL no bfp, i honestly couldnt care less what my new due date would be, just as long as i get oneChat Icon

ITA with MrsKelly. I am also a teacher. My original due date was June. It was perfect - not near the holidays and it would work outperfectly for maternity leave. Unfortunately, since i m/c i no longer care what my due date is. I didn't want to have to leave in the middle of the school year and i also didn't want a baby near the holidays. It looks like right now i am aiming for a november baby. I just want a baby, so if that means i will give birth near the holidays then so be it.

Re: Do you ever consider pausing TTC for a month or more?

I always talked about stopping so we wouldn't have a baby due around the weddings next fall, especially my BIL's and my husbands cousins (Nov/Sept) which DH are in both and Christmas.

But then I got told that if I am going to do this I have to do it right away. That the longer it takes, the more likely I am to have to have surgery that can have permanent effects on my fertility.

Suddenly I realized, it doesn't matter when a baby is born. Some things are more important.

Agreed.

We actually delayed TTC for 6 months because of a wedding we had to travel to. I regret that so much. But I didn't know then what I was going up against. Thing is, my fibroid grew 3cm during that 6 months, so if I hadn't delayed, it might have been a lot easier for me. I would go back if I could, but I can't.

I will never delay it again unless I am told to do so by a doctor.
