Disney at 14mo - Yay or Nay?
DH is planning a last minute, long weekend trip for my birthday at the end of the month! He is asking me to pick a destination and I'd really love to go take my DS to Disney. Is 13-14m too young? We will definitely be going back when he is older, too. We just started TTC #2, so we won't really have the chance to take him for another 1-2 years. WWYD?

First off, YAY for ttc #2 Second, if I were you I would pick someplace else. A won't be able to go on a ton of stuff and you might as well have a relaxing vaca on a beach somewhere and he can swim and play in the sand etc

Re: Disney at 14mo - Yay or Nay?
My friend took her 2 year old DD to Disney and told me she regretted it. she said she felt she was just too young to get it, she was afraid of some of the characters, she wasn't able to go on most rides and the long day in the park was just too much for her- she was still taking a nap, so they'd have to leave mid day to let her have her nap, etc
She told me that she would definitely have waited another year or so if she knew then what she knows now.
That was just her experience though...

Re: Disney at 14mo - Yay or Nay?
My SIL took my 4 year old and 18 month old nieces to Disney for a few days when we were all there for visiting FIL for Thanksgiving.
She said the 4 year old made it through the day but not without break downs and whinning - typical.
The 18 month old was not having any of it. She wanted out of the stroller, didn't want to hold thier hands while walking, one of them had to wait on the side while the other took the 4 year old on rides. She was ehh with the characters. So basically, she was there to just look at everything.
There was nothing for the 18 month old to do.
In the end they told us it was a good decision on our part in not tagging along and bring DS - who was 15 months.

DS is 16 months & he would not appreciate it.
It's zoo/aquarium/farm time. His interest lasts about 1-2 hours at a place.

Re: Disney at 14mo - Yay or Nay?
DD was 14 months when we took her for the second time. The first time she was only 2 months old, but that trip was planned before I was pregnant.
That being said, she had a great time. We went on a lot of things. Obviously roller coasters were out, but they were out for me anyway because I am pregnant. She actually fell asleep on the Haunted Mansion. She was "singing" along to Small World.
She loved seeing the characters. She didn't really like when they got too close, like no hugging, but she loved seeing them. Mickey is the only celebrity she "knows"!
Now this is our family. We are DVC members and go to Disney every year. We aren't saving our only trip for when it means something, right now it's for us. We love it there and if it brings a smile to her face for a week, that is worth it to us. I showed her the pictures this past weekend and she was so excited to see us in a picture with Mickey. She was pointing and saying "Mama, Dada, Reagan and MICKEY!!" Like she couldn't believe we were so close to him at one point.

Just for a 14 mo....no. We took DD when she was 3 and she loved it. I still think she may have been a little young, but she still remembers most of it a year later. DS is 18 mo now, and I wouldn't take him specifically for him.

Re: Disney at 14mo - Yay or Nay?
We took DS at 15 months and honestly we had a great time! He did REALLY well considering we spent over 12 hours at Disney one day!!! We also spent 7+ hours at Seaworld and the same at each of the Universal parks. He did really great at all of them.
Now granted, he couldn't really get on many rides, but he had a great time walking around, riding his stroller, looking, eating, riding the kiddy rides etc.
But we didn't stay at Disney. We stayed at a timeshare and did one day at each park. He napped in the stroller when he needed to. No regrets! It was a great trip.

Re: Disney at 14mo - Yay or Nay?
A 14 month old can go on everything a 3 year old can go on, so I say yay. Disney is very baby friendly. There are just a handful of rides with a height requirement.

Re: Disney at 14mo - Yay or Nay?
I would NEVER say no to Disney, I don't care what the age of my child is!!! I've known plenty of people who take their kids as young as a few months old and their kids loved it no matter what the age. I know my own DD at 14 months would've LOVED it!!!............she's been a HUGE Disney fan since she was a baby so I know that she would've had fun at that age. I say go, have fun!!!!!

Re: Disney at 14mo - Yay or Nay?
We took DS at just over 2 months. We have a timeshare in Orlando and we figured it's a very family-friendly destination.
I would go for it - it doesn't cost anything for a kid under 3.
DS liked looking around at everything and stayed awake the entire time.

Re: Disney at 14mo - Yay or Nay?
We just took dd this past October, and she was only 9 months old. Will she remember it? No. But did she have fun while we were there? Absolutely. She loved seeing the characters - she wasn't afraid of them at all, and would actually get mad when they walked away from her. She kissed them and tried to eat their noses. Sure, she couldn't go on a ton of rides, but she really loved being outside and seeing everything. I say go for it. Just be prepared for him to have to nap and stuff...She actually could sleep in her stroller and was great.

Re: Disney at 14mo - Yay or Nay?
I wouldn't do Disney at 14 months. We took our DS when he was 17 months (we were not down there only for Disney though) and he did not enjoy it. He's a really good baby/toddler so he had no meltdowns but he didn't enjoy it either. He was in the stroller most of the time. It was hot. And the lines were long that he couldn't go on any rides. He just didn't have the patience at that point to wait on line.
I'd do something way more relaxing. My DS had a blast the rest of our trip just being in the pool and feeling the warm sun. We went in March.

Re: Disney at 14mo - Yay or Nay?
We did a long weekend at Disney with our 14 month old boys and we had a great time. They were not walking yet so they stayed in the stroller mos tof the time and they slept when they were tired, so we didn't have to worry about if we were there too long, etc. They don't remember it but we do and have plenty of pictures to remember it. We also got their 1st haircuts there.

We took DS when he was 17 months old and he had the BEST time! We did so much stuff and he wasnt cranky at all and it was 95 degrees out! We just went to the parks at opening, had lunch around 1230 left at 1 he fell asleep in the car and slept until 4 and then we headed back for dinner until it closed! He did ALOT at Magic Kingdom and LOVED the water park!

Regardless of his age, for just a long weekend, I don't think it's worth it.
I would pick something more drive able, IMO.

Re: Disney at 14mo - Yay or Nay?
Not too young! We took Landon at 6 months and just went again this November. Landon was 3.5 and the twins were 16 months. The twins went on most of the rides we went on - obviously not rollercoasters - but there was a lot for them. They had a GREAT time! it may not be somthing they will remember forever but we all enjoyed it.

Re: Disney at 14mo - Yay or Nay?
I would do it! We've been 3x with DD so far... she was 6 months, 9 months and 20 months and we all enjoyed it each time. It will be more for you guys, but you'll have some great memories!
Just keep in mind that at the end of Jan it can be really cold in orlando (it could be really hot too you just never know). We went in Feb 2010 and it was freezing, 40's during the day and 20's at night!

Wow - thanks for all the responses! I definitely want him to remember it, but maybe I secretly want to go for myself, too. LOL I am going to share these responses with DH to see what he thinks.

Maria...sending you sticky dust for #2
Now, as for Disney, we don't want to take our boys until they're 4 or 5 so they can remember and enjoy the park better. DS #1 is 20 months old and a runner so that makes me nervous about even taking him to the city. DS #2 is only 12 weeks old.

Re: Disney at 14mo - Yay or Nay?
Absolutely YES for Disney! Your baby may not remember the trip, but YOU will remember it forever.
I went to Disney at 26 weeks pregnant TWICE and had just as much fun as all the other times.
But we're Disney freaks so my opinion may be skewed because of that.
ETA: we've been to Disney over 10 times in the past 10 years, and BY FAR, my favorite trip was when we only had our first DD. She just turned 1 and I was 26 weeks pregnanct with #2. Any ride she could go on, I could go on. We had a fabulous time that year. She is 6 now and loves looking thru the photo albums from all of her trips. And she remembers things that I dont (and dont have pictures of either)
