Dont know if its true -- but friend of my inlaws son is high up in military and says Trump will be announcing nation-wide quarantine within 72 hours. so.....I'm guessing that will mean only supermarkets and pharmacy will be allowed to stay open

Military is on lockdown and can’t travel for sixty days.

Schools are closed but everything else is still open where I’m at in NJ. I’m going to help homeschool my son but will continue to take him to Kung fu and go to kickboxing.

ETA: if I wasn’t on an aggressive weight loss plan and trying to save money because I wasn’t working, I would definitely be eating out. Sorry not sorry.

Not true as News12 just debunked this

We went to a casual dining place on Sunday- not fast food. Half the tables had signs saying they were not available due to the 50% rule.

Doctors here and in Italy are pleading with people not to gather fo rnonessential things. They are telling stories of perfectly healthy people under 40--even under 30--whose systems go into overdrive and kill them from this. They are imploring us to make drastic changes right now so that hospitals don't have to choose who gets ventilators. They have seen and done things that I could never do---so I am stayng home for now.

ETA--in a week's time, it is likely that most will be forced to shut down to stop the restaurant traffic. It will be legislated--starting already.

It baffles me how some people just don’t care. And it’s the first few days! I can see going stir crazy after a while, but if you can’t play with your kids and cook your own burger for one weekend we’re in real trouble.

I agree. We love to go out a lot. Always busy on the weekends, dinners, friends over, etc.
We have cancelled everything for the last few weeks. Last week DH saw this coming and stocked up. We are watching movies, cooking big meals, enjoying some wine outside and letting kids play outside, etc.. We are NOT going to public places or large gatherings. Just cancelling reservations for the next few weeks at least. Best way to help keep this contained is follow the rules. End of story.

Dining out

We went out to eat that night and then yesterday, but I'm done with it - even for take out. I think 2 states have already closed restaurants so I'm guessing more states will follow.

What's mind boggling is that there was a local event last night for St. Patrick's day and over 200 people were in attendance. Photos showed them all over each other, partying, etc. All less than a day after it was announced that someone tested positive after attending a giant Lego event over the weekend. It's disturbing that a lot of people aren't taking this seriously enough and it's going to cause COVID to stick around even longer.

I went out to a fairly high-end restaurant last night. It was pretty empty, but still a decent amount of people there. Before going out, I thought I was fine with it, but I have to say, I was a little bothered by a few things, like when the bus boy would lean over the table to fill water glasses and stuff like that. The waitress did say they are taking so many extra precautions - like there was no salt & pepper on the table. We had to ask for it because they are keeping them in the back and wiping them down every time they get used. Although it seemed fine for the most part, I was a little more "worried" than I had been prior to going out

That's my thing. I know I was being overly paranoid, but I just kept looking at every surface - did they really disinfect the table that someone could have coughed on? Did they wipe down the seats? Did the people in the back not wipe their forehead then touch my plate to move it to be picked up by the waitstaff? It's all a little too much risk for me to just decide that I need to go out to eat.

We took the kids to McDonald's over the weekend before all the announcements regarding school closures, etc. It seemed like they kept everything clean and they were also limiting capacity and putting a sign up at every other table saying you couldn't sit there.

I have a feeling though that LI will follow suit with NYC and close all bars/restaurants except for takeout.

That's good to know. I thought it was suspicious that all of a sudden so many people have a close relative that is high up in the military Chat Icon

People really need to stop spreading rumors that cause panic. They also need to stop re-posting things with no official source. Chat Icon

Most restaurants are closing their dining areas anyway so that decision is being made for you. Honestly, with some people's hygiene habits I really don't want anyone else making my food except me. Better safe than sorry.

I am not an alarmist and I don't easily panic but with how everything is going, just stay home. Seriously. We'd all love to get out and have a nice meal but doing that right now is irresponsible and puts everyone at risk.

Re: Dining out

We ate out in NYC over the weekend. The people were seated very far apart, and we never saw more than 3 parties in the restaurant to begin with. I alcohol wiped down my hands before I ate, didn't touch my face, washed my hands in my hotel room after, and took my vitamin C. But, these are things I would do eating out anyway, and always have. I don't think restaurants are going to risk having sick employees making and serving food. Their livliehood is depending on it right now. Of course we can't dine in now, but we can order takeout. Which I will still do.

The economy is going to suffer so badly from this. I can't even tell you how many restaurants we saw empty. On Stone Street and South Street Seaport, where St. Patrick's Day weekend events were supposed to be huge, and a exponential part of their business. Closed, or no one inside.

I would highly suggest helping support your favorite restaurant during these times and order take out. They are doing their best to stay as clean as possible for their customers and those takeout orders will help pay bills. If everyone decides they don't want to, then say goodbye to those restaurants after all this.

Ate out tonight as a last meal at a restaurant for the time being lol. I’m thinking of all those people whose livelihoods are in these places so I will be taking out occasionally! Also to just get out of the house!

It's tough. I'd love to order. But was just told the girl I babysit for won't be going back to school till 4/20. Her mom will be WFH so they won't need me till 4/20. That's a month without pay. Chat Icon Chat Icon
Unless daycares close and someone I do back up sitting for will need me. But that's even risky.

This. I cooked tonight but DH went out to get us dessert at a very popular, well known local place that's always packed. He said it was empty. They've started doing delivery to bring in business. We plan to order from them soon.

Daycares are ordered to close as of tomorrow. I am thinking the mom of the girl you babysit for will be calling you since it’s really hard to work from home with kids home - and for over a month!
