Re: Diet soda
My DR does not have an issue with it in moderation. She did tell me it is more important to be drinking water, but if i drink enough water and want a diet soda, to go for it.
I have cut down drastically since being pg but aside from alcohol and maybe certain raw fish, everything in moderation is fine.

Re: Diet soda
I drink it, maybe 2 cans over the course of a week, which is much less than I used to drink before I was pregnant. It's not as good as drinking water of course but I hope having a little bit won't be a problem.

Personally, I wouldn't touch diet soda with a ten foot pole, pregnant or not.
Even though there are no "proven" side effects, my own belief is that chemicals can not be doing any good to your body.

Diet soda
My dr said if you want a soda have a regular one. Diet anything is toxic. May just be my drs opinion but I've just been sticking with having a regular coke.

Isn't everything but water essentially chemicals?

I agree. I don't drink diet coke but I eat chips or things that have preservatives. I'd say pick your poison.

Not really. Just anything "diet" would indicate chemicals to me. That's not to say that a lot of other drinks aren't filled with artificial flavors, colors, or sugars.

Not exactly, we don't really know the long term effects of artificial sweeteners, or what we do know is not clear. We know about sugar though! That said, I have diet soda in moderation when I'm NOT pg.

Diet soda
Please read Dr. Mercola's article on aspartame. It's not good for you or the baby.

I agree. I am far from being a healthy eater, but I avoid anything with aspartame like the plague, pregnant or not. Plus, it gives me a migraine anyway.
I will have an occasional regular soda though

Same. There's a few ingredients in it that are harmful. Some think diet soda may be the cause in MS. I haven't drank it in years!

Diet soda
My OB prefers if you drink regular before diet. The only soda I drink is Root Beer and that's only with certain foods ie: ziti from Angelinas have to have a root beer.

Diet soda
I ate almost anything during my pregnancy but did not have diet soda. It's not the soda part it's the artifical sweeteners in them that is the issue.
I am laid back about almost everything g except the fake augers. I have eliminated them from my diet even after having my son and my migraines have stopped and I feel better.

DO NOT freak out! First of all, MOST OBs say everything in moderation, with a few exceptions. I have been drinking diet snapple occasionally this pregnancy. I specifically asked my OB about artificial sweeteners in crystal lite etc. and she specifically said even those in moderation are FINE.
Everyone's experience is different and every individual decides what works for them. While I appreciate that you asked and people responded and shared their own personal opinions, I think it is extremely condescending for anyone to tell you to stop something completely unless they are your doctor. Not everyone did this on here, many just shared their own experience and what they chose to do, but do not listen to anyone but your doctor and your own decision-making when you choose what works for you and your pregnancy. Just my two cents. But I repeat, DO NOT freak out! You are fine!!!!

Re: Diet soda
When I wasn't pregnant I only drank soda when I went out to eat or something. Since I've been pregnant it's been like a weakness! I drank it but not to excess.
I'm cautious about what I eat/drink but I'm not overly paranoid about it. Being pregnant is hard enough without being terrified about everything I put in my body.

I think stating your opinion is fine on these boards but demanding OP stop drinking it (EXCLAMATION POINT) is quite unnecessary.
To the OP... You're totally fine! Don't freak out. Enjoy your pregnancy and just have stuff in moderation. Congrats!

Re: Diet soda
I just want to add, whenever I freak out I remind myself that there are women who are out of it and not in touch with their cycles who don't even know they are pregnant until much later on - imagine what they are doing when they don't know there's a baby in there and many if not most of those babies turn out fine! Of course being aware and careful is important but so is not freaking yourself out and making choices that work for you!

Don't freak out I eat other things im not supposed to, like cold cuts and runny eggs. Do what your comfortable with. Ask your dr about his/her opinion on it. Some are ok with it and some advise against it.

Re: Diet soda
I'm not a soda drinker but if I had to choose, I'd drink regular before diet pregnant or not.
Side note: I am OOS and my OB is located right in the hospital. I had a long appt. recently so I went to the cafeteria for lunch. To my surprise, every soda option they had (fountain and bottled) was all diet. I found this surprising since it was a hospital and because of everything about diet soda in the news lately. My thought was (in a joking way) "well if anyone gets aspartame shock, at least the ER is right down the hall".
