Did You Open Gifts At DC's 1st Bday Party? (Home Party)

Just curious what the norm is since all of DS's parties are out and gifts are always brought home and opened after.

Yes. We opened all the gifts at the home party. If we were out at a place then I would not have opened them there.

Yes, but when most of the party left, the grandparents and a few family members stayed and watched.

only after most of the guests had left and it was only closer family. Otherwise it's just way too chaotic and overwhelming!

In my family growing up, on both my mom and dad's side, the birthday child was always set up in a chair and opened their presents with everyone watching after cake (kind of like at a bridal or baby shower)...now thinking about it, kind of strange I guess Chat Icon

I would wait until everyone left (unless of course there were grandparents - or immediate family that hung around and wanted to watch) - otherwise it's def. too chaotic. I like to organize as I go through!

Thanks everyone..with the exception of my sister, we have NO family coming to the party and there won't be very many people so we'll probably just do it at the party. I think people will enjoy watching Emma open what they got her Chat Icon

Wait, so even at a party outside of the home you DON'T open presents in front of everyone? Chat Icon

I don't think I've ever been to a party where the presents weren't opened in front of the guests.

At most of the party places, there are time contraints so they don't let you open the gifts. They bag them up for you to take home. This is places like Gymboree, Wood Kingdom, CEC, etc.

Ah...got it.

We're having DS's party at a clubhouse, so I would imagine we would open presents there.

IMO its too hectic for a young baby.

I wont be opening them at Noahs. Way too chaotic.

We didn't open them at the party. Too chaotic and this year for DS's 2nd birthday we are planning on doing the same. We did it the next day and of course that is the plan again for this year.

Re: Did You Open Gifts At DC's 1st Bday Party? (Home Party)

yes, it was a BAD idea. We had 50 or 60 people. Kaitee never got a nap before and she was so tired. Everyone was handing me gifts for her to open (i think they wanted to see her reaction to the there gifts). She didn;t care about any of them. Dh took her out of the room because she was so overwhelmed and everyone stayed and watched me open themChat Icon Next time we will pick a few to open during but limit the amount so the kids (and mommy) have more fun!
