Did you eat before glucose screening?
I would like to know how doctors can recommend not to fast, when it would absolutely screw up my results! It just makes no sense to me. They are testing for your fasting sugar levels, and if you put sugars into your body, the results will be inaccurate?

Re: Did you eat before glucose screening?
The appropriate range for fasting vs. not fasting is different, so i think whether you do or do not fast the most important thing is to tell the lab when you get blood whether you have fasted or not.

Eating should not mess up the results. My OB is a maternal fetal medicine specialist who sees patients with endocrine problems and she stated that eating a normal breakfast would not have any impact on the test results for the one hour glucose tolerance test. I ate breakfast the morning of my test and three hours later my doctor had me take the test immediately following my visit and my results were "perfect" according to the doctor.

Re: Did you eat before glucose screening?
I think that really what it comes down to is Drs just don't know if its better to fast or not. The test is only like 75% accurate, which means 25% of people w/ GD will pass anyway and 25% of people w/o it will fail and take the 3hour. I'm pretty sure in Europe the don't even do this test, but use other indicators to test for GD. More research needs to be done.
Not trying to just saying you will never find a consensus on these boards bc the medical community hasn't even reached a consensus on it! Just go by what your Dr tells you. Good luck!

Good point. I stopped eating after midnight for both and took it early morning. Failed the 1 hr by 10 pts. Failed 2 out the 4 draws (fasting and 2nd hour) by 10 pts. I was also very sick the day I took the 3 hour. I've been doing my finger pricking for 10 days and without really trying too hard, have kept my #'s well within range. I mean I had Cheesecake factory for dinner last week w/ 1/2 a piece of cheesecake and my #'s were low!! I think so many factors can play into whether or not we fail.

I had breakfast about 2 hours before the 1 hour and I passed. They told me to eat breakfast like normal and only to fast for 1 hour before drinking the drink.
This! I passed with a # in the 70'S
