Did anyone wait till 6 months to start solids?

My doctor recommeded this so I am waiting. DD will be 6 months next week so we'll start after her doctor's appt. She drinks about 24-28 ounces of formula a day and seems satisfied with it. I definitely think if I gave her more, she'd drink it, but she doesn't cry when she's done for me.

So we have waited plus my doctor said it's better for allergies? Did anyone else wait?

Yes. My son has a milk protein allergy and we were trying different formulas from 3 months until 5 months, so we decided to wait and make sure the last formula was really working before we added anything else to his system.

I planned but attempted earlier to try to help her relfux, it didn't, just made a bigger mess. Next baby I plan to wait 6 months.

I waited until 6 months too. Until then I exclusively breastfed my son.

Re: Did anyone wait till 6 months to start solids?

Our ped told us between 4-6 months to start and if he was doing okay with just formula and sleeping through the night to wait closer to 6 months. Michael was just shy of 6 months. I preferred to wait anyway, I have TONS of allergies to food so I figured it would be better to wait. If the formula is still holding her over then I say it's okay to hold off to 6 months - some baby's are looking for something extra before then.

I wanted to wait until 6 months, but my "little" girl was drinking close to 40 oz of formula a day. The ped felt she needed more calories, so we started her on cereal this weekend at 4 1/2 months.

My DD is about 4.5 months and we are going to stretch it as long as we can. She sleeps through the night with no problem - so why push it?

OK it's good to hear that other people waited. She's not drinking a ton of formula and she sleeps through the night, so I think it's okay. It just didn't seem the norm, but I'm glad other people waited till 6 months. Chat Icon

I'm waiting. Everything I've read says to wait, and, honestly, I'm not looking forward to changing diapers after he starts solids. It's so easy right now -- I really have no desire to start.

yeah we started at 5.5 months but only VERY slowly introduced cereal like 1Tbsp a day for a week, then 2 Tbsp another week, veeeeery slowly. I was in no rush for fear of allergies.

We waited at rec of PED. We saw no reason to jump on solids-they need/get most of their nutrition from formula til 1 years old anyways.

Yes. I do not believe in starting solids before 6 months. I believe the latest research on the topic. I mentioned to my ped that I was waiting and she agreed but I didn't ask for her permission to do so.

we waited until 5 1/2 and seemed to be the last ones, so we sort of got bullied into it...we are still going slow though and not in a rush at all...
