diaper rash help! her poor tush is red and raw
DD is 5.5 months and just got her first real bad diaper rash. her butt is red and spots are open/raw. i feel so bad for her. She is pooping a lot bc i think she has stomach bug from my older DD.
what can i do? i've been using desitin but it looks worse everytime i changed her.
i just let her air out a bit and put only cornstarch powder on.
should i call ped?? is there anything else i can do???

DS only had 1 really bad diaper rash but desitin didn't work so well for it; we fared much better with triple paste, do you have some???? Also diaper-free is the way to go, she's not mobile yet so let her hang out with no diaper (put a towel underneath her to contain any surprises)!

DD just got her first bad diaper rash because she got bad diarrhea from antibiotics. We've been using Triple Paste and it's been working great. A little pricey, but worth it!

When DS had a really bad diaper rash, the ped suggested we use an anti-fungal cream (like lotrimin). That was the only thing that cleared it up.

I guess something is going around b/c my dd had this last week and I had to take her to the ped on day 2 of the rash when I saw it was not gettin any better...they gave her a prescription nystatin/triamcinolone cream for twice a day and I use the desitin all other diapers during the day. The first 2 days were horrible and it has slowly gotten better, but my dd had diarrhea for almost 1 whole week. Now that the diarrhea has slowed down I hope it clears up totally.

desitin never really worked for me nor did Boudreaux's butt paste.
triple paste (i used cvs brand to save $) or aquaphor (also cvs brand) worked the best for us!

instead of a wipe - when and if it's that bad - i SWEAR by: California Baby Non Burning & Calming Diaper Area Wash...i spray that on her butt and she calms down INSTANTLY. I then follow up with California Baby Calming Diaper Rash Cream.
you can usually find them at Target (pricey - but 100% worth it to me)

our ped suggested the purple tube of desatin with mylanta (original NOT mint) mixed in.
also, i LOVE buttpaste! i was a user of triplepaste but like buttpaste much better now (especially for a sore rump, goes on SO much easier!)
once it starts getting better, we find nothing is better than cornstarch powder!

my mom is old school and doesnt believe in baby wipes (they can make diaper rash worse)... when there is a poop she washes the childs butt under the kitchen faucet with hot water. Now with my DD I do the same and it works!!

I have found that AD Ointment works best.
Hope her tushy gets better soon

thanks for all the suggestions. Going to give the triple paste a shot.
we have tried butt paste and the aveeno one too. hopefully this one will work on her cute tushy:)
