Hmmmmmm...Emmy had bad diaper rash when we started the ProBiotics and Desatin rapid relief helped, and so did the Butt paste. Could you try cooling the wipes slightly? Maybe the coolness would help sooth her butt. Also what about cooling the cream as well.

Re: horrible/painful/red diaper rash

our ped. always told us to first put a layer or cortisone on it and rub it in completely. Then glop on desitin diaper cream over it. We've only had a few isolated bad diaper rash issues and this seemed to work for us.

Hope her hiney gets better soon...poor baby

Re: horrible/painful/red diaper rash

if she's pooping a lot then she may be depleting her gut flora and in return all the good healthy bacteria.

I would A)

Get her started on oral infant pro-biotics asap (call me if you want to chat about it)

B) Make sure she isn't developing a yeast rash from the decrease in good bacteria and all the excessive pooping, if so you can start using lotrimin and a nice THICK layer of a zinc oxide based cream over that 3X a day

C) AIR TIME, AIR TIME, AIR TIME..... Air out that coolie! BEST thing there is

Mix Aquaphor with Maalox or Mylanta and apply with each diaper change.

cool tip --- does it reduce the acidity in the poop which irritates the skin?

Re: horrible/painful/red diaper rash

Try letting her "dry out" by sitting without a diaper for a while. Also, we use something called "Calmoseptine". You can get it from the pharmacist but it doesn't require a perscription. It really helps. If the rash persists more than 3 days, my pediatrician says that it becomes a yeast infection of the skin and they will give you a special cream Chat Icon

Re: horrible/painful/red diaper rash

Stop using wipes!!! Get some softer paper towels, like the viva ones, and wet them with plain water instead of using wipes. Then let her air out in between diaper changes. Also use a mix of diaper cream, and cortisone cream. YOu might want to get your ped to call in nystatin which you can add to the mix.

Re: horrible/painful/red diaper rash

I agree with Maria regarding probiotics (and everything else actually). Whenever my babies get really bad rashes I find that using Lotrimin first, then a layer of desitin (has the highest % of zinc oxide) works well. Whenever we have the time to watch them closely, we let them do "nakey time" to air out their tushes for as long as possible.

If it's bath night, I'll put baking soda in the bath water and let them soak for awhile.

Also- I find that even the wipes labeled "gentle" are too harsh when they are that irritated. I rinse the wipes out with lukewarm/cool water so I'm essentially wiping them with a cloth and plain water.

Good luck- I know how awful those rashes are.Chat Icon

Re: horrible/painful/red diaper rash

We just visited teh Ped for one Chloe had. He gave us an antifungal in case its partially yeast and said LOAD on the desitin. We used SOOOOO much desitin, I mean LOADED it on, he said make sure shes so covered to not get any pee or poop on her at all cause shes covered in diaper cream.

In 2 days its almost gone. and was much lighter after one application, so I'm a new fan if desitin!

That in mind, I used a whole tube in 3 days, so I did use a LOT!

Re: horrible/painful/red diaper rash

Ugh Jess!! I totally forgot about Em's rash! I had an extra tube of prescription cream from when Samantha had one it worked wonders... Nycitain (I know the spelling is wrong), but it cleared it right up.

Do you want it? I can drop it off on my way home tomorrow if you want.

I agree stop using the wipes for now because of the alcohol in them. Just paper towels and water to start out!!

My kids have had some BAD rashes. I found that NOTHING helped but leaving the diaper off and letting their butts air out. I would do it for 20 minutes or so at a time at different intervels through the day.

NO wipes. Switch to cvs dry wipes for a month. Wet with water. Do not wipe pee only poop. We love butt paste, use whatever just nothing that has petroleum. When you bathe don't wash don't there. Dr gave us these instructions when we had a nasty diaper rash and it really helped.

First, absolutely stop using the wipes! I never realized how much they stung until I had a cut on my finger one day (and we use the pure and natural). Use a soft cloth or wet paper towels. We also use Earth Mama Angel Baby Bottom Balm. It's all natural and seems to work really well. Maybe try something like that. Good luck.

Also, when I had this problem I switched to nutramigen ready to feed. It doesn't have the probiotics so she didn't have the explosive poops.
