DHs and no alcohol or caffeine

SIL and BIL were telling DH and I they were trying for over a year and BIL cut all alcohol and caffeine out of his diet and they got pregnant. They swear by this and really think it was because BIL eliminated alcohol and soda that they got pregnant. DH drinks about 2 cups of tea a day and will have beers every now and then when he goes out with his friends. Has anyone else heard of this?

I've never heard of that... but I've already asked DH to cut out other things he enjoys for the sake of getting pregnant - I can't take away his coffee and beer too! He'll lose his mind!

If your DH isnt consuming either excessively there is no reason to stop... there is no way they can know that that was the reason... Just because they happened to get pregnant doesnt mean that was the reason.

crashing...
DH and I drank alcohol and coffee up until our BFP (1st try). We still drink coffee although I have cut down my caffeine a lot.

I've read this about caffeine. I switched to decaf tea and soda. DH cut back on coffee to one cup in the morning only. Not sure if it aids in anything, but it can't hurt to try. Chat Icon

This! Even if it was a contributing factor to his sperm count/motility, etc... it would take at least 3 months of him changing his diet/lifestyle for it to have any impact at all. So unless thats what your BIL did, then it's safe to say it had nothing to do with her getting pg.

I wouldn't be inclined t have your DH cut out alcohol of caffeine unless its excessive.

Thanks ladies! I have never heard this either but will ask my doctor in Feb. I know they mean well but it just gets annoying that they keep harping on it acting like its this miracle secret.

Re: DHs and no alcohol or caffeine

Never heard of it effecting DH, but don't think it could hurt either... especially caffeine, its not exactly healthy.

Not sure about the guys, but I was told to limit intake of both out in my diet.
