Desparate - can someone help me sleep train?
Where should I begin? How would you fix these problems. Does anyone have a suggested plan?????? I feel like I need step by step guidance....
7 month old goes to bed ok, but does not stay asleep. He needs white noise (vacuum) and once we turn it off, he is up.
Won't sleep in his crib (is in our bed). It's the only way for us to get any rest but I'd like to move him to his crib over Christmas Break (I have ten days off so I can not sleep for a few days if I have to). I've tried putting him in his crib, CIO, Ferber, etc. He screams hysterically for HOURS to point where he is coughing and choking. I just don't think I can handle letting him cry all night long.
Wakes up A LOT during the night and needs to be comforted back to sleep (Boob, singing, and/or pat on the back).
I feel like we instilled bad habits early on just so we could survive. We both work and need to be rested. I guess I felt like broken sleep is better than no sleep. But I am despartely looking to change / improve his sleep habits. I just feel lost....

I'm not really sure what advice to give in terms of getting him into his crib; but have you tried leaving a white noise machine on all night? We got one from bed bath and beyond that had the option of being on a timer or staying on all night. There is also a sleep sheep from Cloud B that has a motion sensor so when he moves it turns on.

Maybe try the Sleep Lady's Sleep Shuffle method. It works very well, but takes longer than CIO. If you need someone to walk you through it Rebecca Kramer is a great asleep Coach you can hire. My sister used her and had a very possitive experience.

I was going to suggest a sound machine as well.
Have you tried the sleep shuffle? It worked for my sister, but she did it around a year.
Does he fall asleep on his own?
Are you nursing him every time he wakes up?

Bedtime same time every night, same bedtime routine. Naps same time every day. Dark room, white noise. We did a version of interval CIO with both sets of twins and it seemed to work. We also introduced a "lovey" around 7-8 months- the little blanket stuffed animals things. I also believe in early bedtimes. 630-7pm is usually ideal for a 7 months old in my opinion.
