I honestly can't imagine you being more perfect for the occupation you are preparing yourself for.

I understand all about what you are saying...being younger feels like it would be easier b/c we had less to worry about back then...less to worry for or want for.

personally, when thinking about going back to school, I felt immense GUILT that I was not only putting off other futures goals for myself, but for my husband as well.

so I waited. and now I have a house and baby. and you know what...I fear it will be MORE difficult with these ADDITIONAL pressures.

you are doing the RIGHT thing at the RIGHT time...only a few more months to go.

you are going to rock this like no other. and all of the people you will help...you will find fulfillment beyond your wildest dreams...and when you get that house and give A a lil playmate...how awesome it will all be!!!!!!!!!!!!

omg please don't tell me you had that baby and I missed the announcement...

hehe-- see RIGHT AFTER I finish is when we're going to go the house/baby route. DH is ready NOW for Chat Icon Chat Icon but I had to beg him to hang on until I'm (almost) finished... Could you imagine the posts I would make if it were:

work/school/motherhood/ AND PREGNANCY???

See-- if DH didn't commute to NJ every day for work, I *would* get pregnant while in school... but (as I'm sure many of you know) I'm trying to finish school asap so we can move closer to his work... I would take my time otherwise.

[sigh]

thank you for reminding me why I'm doing this... Chat Icon

You KNOW you can do it. Otherwise you would never have tried. Otherwise Joe would never have let you try. Otherwise Aidan would have been bugging you to let him throw even MORE balls at the game. Chat Icon

Re: [deep breath]

When I found out I was pregant last year I was in my 4th semester of getting my MBA. I was going pt for that & working FT. So I was only taking 2 classes a semester so in total I needed 6 semesters and one summer class to get my MBA. When found out I was pregnant I decided to take 2 summer classes and then take the fall semester off for the end of my pregnancy.

When I gave birth to DS in December I still had 3 classes to take in order to finish. I went back to school for 2 classes in January when DS was 6 weeks old and then went back to work FT when he was 8 weeks old (i had a csection and could not afford to take any unpaid time off). I knew I HAD to go back right away or I may have never went back. And with only 3 more classes to go it woul dhave been stupid to not go on and finish.

So here I was working FT going to school 2 nights a week with a newborn baby and a DH who works 2 jobs. There we so many weeks when I just want to give up and I asked my self over & over "what the hell was I thinking" but I kept telling my self it will all be over soon. When the semester was over I was SO happy! All I had left was to take one summer class which was only 5 weeks and then I was DONE!!!! AND now I am DONE and i can not tell you how good it feels!!!! I finished just in time to be able to enjoy time with my son as begin to do alot more than just eat sleep and poop!

I have been in school non stop since preschool and I am very pround to have completed my MBA before I turned 25. It was hard but I so happy to have it behind me now and I can enjoy the future.

Now I didnt get the promotion I was supposed to get which makes meChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon but I am supposed to get it next year but that is a whole other story I won't get into.

Anyway, Just keep the end result in sight and you will find the will power to go on! Good Luck!!!! Chat Icon

Re: [deep breath]

Stessed out beyond belief. I also pulled a 4.0. I never knew if I was coming or going.

But no I do not love what I do now, but that is bc of limited options due to the economy in my company at the moment. But I know it WILL help me once the economy gets better.

You can do it, just take it day by day. Good luck!

When I was going for my master's degree all I heard was "Guidance? You'll NEVER get a job, it is impossible".

Well with 30 credits I applied to every school in NYC. (minimum you need to work although most people wait until they finish their internship and degree-60 cr)

My internship was my first job. I got paid as am intern Chat Icon .

ITA with this. Don't worry or get too overwhelmed. I know how stressful it is but you can do it.

also for those that pursued a masters, did you feel totally lost while in graduate school, but love what you do now?

DUDE- REALLY?! Ummmmmm.....HOW many times did I call you with horrible anxiety attacks when I was in the thick of my program?

Remember when I called you like every night for the first 3 months when I started my first job after grad school because I felt so lost? And I had a 9 week old at home to make life more complicated?

I got through it. I admit I still have moments where I feel like, "Feck, I have no idea what I'm supposed to do....?" but now I have all this experience to draw on and help myself figure out the things I do not know.

Caz- part of being a good therapist (in whatever field) is accepting that you will NEVER know everything, and that it is ALWAYS a learning process.

You know how much I adore what I do and how fulfilled I am. You ARE doing the right thing.

Re: [deep breath]

I just want to say that even if you go slightly out of field after your degree, that education is never a waste. In my situation, I'm in grad school for a PhD in Neuroscience. I've been here almost 8 years, and I've come to the realization that while I LOVE science and all that it does, I HATE research. But, I'm finishing my degree for personal reasons. And, I'm realizing that there are a lot of jobs outside of my field that I will benefit from having a PhD. It took me a long time to find these jobs, and I had to be a little creative. Because honestly, what kind of work can you get when you're best skill is administering hearing tests to BIRDS? But there's always something out there, even if you do choose to stray slightly from your given field. Don't be afraid to. Having that education will definitely help you.

As for how I feel in grad school, I rarely feel good. Despite my adviser being happy with my results, I constantly feel like i know nothing, and that my dissertation is so boring, small, and inconsequential. I think it's normal to feel this way. I know a lot of other grad students that feel this way too. And to top it off, I always feel dumb when presenting my data to my labmates. My biggest fear is that I"ll get into the room for my defense and they will all say that my work is not good enough to be granted a degree. So YES, peopledo feel this way, and it's totally NORMAL. You strive for greatness and so you are hard on yourself. You expect more of yourself, and that is the way that it should be.

Don't worry. It WILL all work out in the end. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

P.S. I meant to respond before but have been busy the past few days. Sorry to break the flow of the Kanye hilarity! Carry on! Chat Icon
