DD Hates Food
We just started feeding her apple sauce and oatmeal and I don't know if it's common for the baby to not like the taste of the food at first...she gags like she is about to throw up...she is taking to the spoon pretty well, but she is spitting out the apple sauce and oatmeal...tomorrow is our last day on this and then I want to try bananas and barley or oatmeal. Has this happened to anyone...we have to stop feeding her after some time because she gets so fussy then we end up giving her the bottle with formula.

DD Hates Food
its not the taste as much as texture.. yeah AJ wanted NOTHING to do with it after that first bite (which she was just more curious than anything) thank GOD for daycare.. they got her hooked. Don't know how but they did LOL As long as they are still getting formula its just good practice.

DD Hates Food
She could just not like apples. My dd loves apples but hates peas. She gags and sounds like a cat hacking up a furball. Instead of gagging she now refuses to open her mouth when she doesn't like something. At 8 months I still have to mix her veggies with fruit or she acts like we are trying to kill her

Re: DD Hates Food
It takes time for them to get used to solids. Everything's brand new- the texture, the taste, the spoon. Just be patient and don't worry if she only takes 1 or 2 spoonfuls at first. She'll get there, and there's no rush.

How old is she? It's possible she's just not ready for foods yet.

DD Hates Food
My dd wasnt a huge fan. She would.eat it but preferred a bottle. I was so worried cause it continued and started again with table food. Now shes 18 months and eats everything in site! Some days she can be picky but most days she will eat whateva i put in front of her. I was woeried about nothing. It just takes them some time. Go slow and follow her cues that would be my advice.

DD Hates Food
We started with both boys at 4 months. It took awhile for DS 1 to get the hang of the new textures and everything while DS 2 took to it right away.
I would try another fruit and see if it's any different - if not, wait a month to try again.

Re: DD Hates Food
Just wanted to let you know my DD is about to be 5 months I started solids at 4 months and she hated it for weeks! In the past week she is more and more interested and really starting to like it. Also I just want to mention if the food is to thick she tends to not like it as much...make sure you are thinning it enough with formula or breast milk

Re: DD Hates Food
We started with oatmeal cereal at 5 months. Took her a solid week to get it, open her mouth for the spoon, keep it in and actually swallow it. It's something new for them. Be patient.
Now she is a champ at eating!!!

How old is she? She is probably not ready. I would wait another 2-3 weeks
Also, just give her either oatmeal or a fruit. Don't try both at once. It's to much for her.

Re: DD Hates Food
DD hated purees. I had a little more luck if I used my finger instead of a spoon. I dove I to soft table foods pretty quickly, probably by 7 months.

Re: DD Hates Food
I wouldn't worry... I started dd at 4-4.5 months and looking back, I really don't think she was ready until about 6 months. she's been a very slow taker to the food. she hated HATED all fruit and cereal until like 9 months at least... and then only started eating it bc I really began pushing it. she'll eat applesauce now but it's definitely not her favorite thing. pear puree is the only other fruit puree she would ever eat.

Re: DD Hates Food
You should get some guidance from your pediatrician.
Mine said 1 food alone for 3 days. That means just oatmeal for 3 days. Then just barley for 3 days, etc.
If the kid is gagging & doing a tongue thrust, my ped's advice was to stop solids & try again a week later. I did this with DD.
It's also very little food... maybe a tablespoon at first.

Just because she's 4 months doesn't mean she's ready. DS gagged on food at 4.5 months and wasn't ready until closer to 5 months. Not every baby is the same, so you have to read her signs. If she's gagging, she probably isn't ready. I'd wait a week or 2 and then try again.

Re: DD Hates Food
Food is just for fun in the first year really, their primary source of nutrition is breast milk or formula. Try a couple bites and don't push it if she refuses. I would probably try once a day at this point, if you think she's truly ready for food (4 months is on the early side). They have a lot to learn regarding coordinating their mouth tongue breathing etc and it takes time. You don't want to associate feeding with stress, disappointment, gagging or spitting up.
It's possible she may not like it. My DD tried apples at 5 months and seemed to like it at first try then hated them until recently at 9 months.

4 months is young. if she's gagging and tongue thrusting, then she's not ready. food before 1 is just for fun anyway, what's the rush?

ITA...I tried to give DD solids at 5 months (I think). She was pushing it out of her mouth, gagging, etc. So, I waited a few weeks, tried again and she took it like a champ.
