HE hates food?
I keep reading all the posts about the kids loving solids..mine is the opposite.
He only wants sweet foods ( muffins, cereal bars ,yogurt etc) and sweet purees..
he hates waffles, pancakes, tofu, eggs, pasta, and chunky fruit or veggies.
Not sure what to do?
Just keep on keeping on with the purees?
I dont mind, its just that he eats a LOT of them. Cube wise, like 6 with cereal and a yogurt. Jar wise, like 1-2 stage 2 or even 3's plus a side.

Re: HE hates food?
No idea, but I can comisserate. DD is presently refusing even jarred food, will only eat Cheerios or teething biscuits. With her, it's about control and her wanting to only eat if she's feeding herself. She's only 9 months
I hope he gets better for you
ETA: I wish, wish, wish my DD was a good eater. It would be one less thing for me to stress about.

Re: HE hates food?
Lucas gives me a hard time with plain pasta so I started mixing it with the sweet potato puree (very little at first) and slowly he started to accept it. I gave it to him once a day every day for a week.
I find with Lucas that it's becoming the common theme...keep giving it to him until HE accepts it. Drives me crazy but I guess that's the way it has to be. Lately he gives me such a hard time with lunch on the weekend.

I tried and tried with all the table foods and one day they just started taking it. I would still give him the purees so he is full enough and getting the nutrients, but don't give up on the solids that he's been refusing.

Re: HE hates food?
It changes everyday with us and I never know what to feed him. What I've been trying to do, and I think is working, is give him what I know he'll eat, and put out something else, even if he picks it up and tastes it only to spit it back out. If I keep doing it, eventually he'll eat it. For instance, for lunch I know he'll eat grilled cheese. So I put it out with some banana pieces and he wanted nothing to do with banana...hated the texture and didn't even want to touch it. I kept doing it till he eventually picked up the banana and ate it. Now he's a banana machine. This also worked with peas and carrots--he would just smuch all the peas and never eat them. For like 2 months he did this until he finally picked up the peas and ate them. NOw we have no problems. It also took like 2 months of putting peaches on the tray before he would even consider them. I think I read it can take 10-15 tries with a single food to get a kid to eat it.
I think just be patient and feed him what you know he'll eat, but keep exposing him to the other stuff anyway. Try putting some fruit puree on the waffles or pancakes. My DS loves english muffins when they have a teeny bit of jelly on them.
I know it's not easy though and everyday mealtime is a struggle.

Re: HE hates food?

Re: HE hates food?
mine went from the worst eater to the best eater.
he shocks everyone now...loves veggies, beans, meat, fruits, cheeses...
I just kept offering a variety. Whatever was on my plate, I put in front of him so he can see he was eating the same thing we were.

Re: HE hates food?
You have to keep at it with the table food. I give Jack something about 6-7 times before he actually likes it.
It's annoying - but I am consistent with it. I don't let him get away with not eating things. Even if he has 5 bites of it - it's still something. I want him to be a good eater since I'm pretty picky.

Re: HE hates food?
DS goes from eating great, to throwing everything I give him on the floor for the dog. I find its a battle of wills sometimes....and if I give him something over and over he will eat it.
His new favorite thing is musht green beans. He used to eat pancakes and waffled great but sometimes he will not eat them. Sometimes I put a very little layer of unsweetened applesauce on them and he will eat 4-5 mini pancakes like that.

Re: HE hates food?
I was told to keep on giving it to them - that it takes many tries for a food to take...
As fat as Cailen is, he really doesn't eat that much. He doesn't like sweets so much, but he rarely even eats a whole jar of food at a sitting - and is satiated after a few bites. Some foods took longer than others for him to get into. then he will love a food for a while, and stop eating it for a while, and then have it again after a little hiatus....

Re: HE hates food?
Definitely keep reintroducing different foods. My DD eats like a bird....at almost 18-months she is still on 1/2 baby food. I figure she'll come around to it in her own time. I don't think she'll be eating baby food forever....at least, I hope not.
