Did you all see this? So D!ck's can do something substantial to try and make a change, but the government can't or won't. Chat Icon

Good for them! Nice to see some common sense out there. And if there is any boycott of D!cks by gun rights advocates, I hope there is a counter boycott that out does them by millions of $$. Maybe other retailers will follow (I doubt it, but it would be amazing if that happened)

Students and Faculty are returning to the Parkland HS today. Their courage and strength are remarkable and I admire them. They are going to walk into that building where 17 of their friends and teachers lost their lives. They will forever be changed by this tragedy but hopefully they will continue to raise their voice and fight for gun control.

We seldom shop there- it's just not always on our radar and we usually find what we need at Target- but we will now.

This! One opened near me less than a year ago and I never really go there but I'm in need of new running sneakers and I will be going there on purpose now. Love the statement, the vibe, everything.

They definitely are making a positive strong statement by stopping the sales of these types of firearms. Chat Icon

Too bad it won't make a dent.
How do we propose confiscating and getting rid of the 30+ million high-capacity rifles in Americans' homes now?

Fine with them. Just like they boycotted Hamilton. Look how much the show has lost... Chat Icon
For me... I will be shopping at Dicks more for this. Both my boys (especially my oldest) loves anything and everything sports so I will be shopping there from now on.

What's funny is- it IS American. This is a free country and a business can chose to sell or not sell whatever it wants.
What's so un-American about that?

Re: D!ck's Sporting Goods

So I hate the customer service at D!cks by me so we stopped going, but I’ll now be a returning customer! These small changes will start to add up, hopefully our government starts adding to these small changes and we start to see big changes!

D!ck's Sporting Goods

Honestly, I'm a gun supporter and see this as a positive step. I dont believe sporting goods stores should be selling guns period, but thats just me. I feel that if a gun is to be sold, it should be at a gun shop with people specifically trained in the laws and regulations surrounding the sale of a firearm. I'm obviously in the minority with this view among the gun supportive community.

Re: D!ck's Sporting Goods

I heard this morning. That's awesome and a step in the right direction. Definitely going to start shopping there. Like pp said, many small changes will add up to a big change. I read that a major GOP donor broke with the party over future donations if they don't tackle the gun issue. Everyone can contribute and do something that will amount to big change, even if it's just making a point to shop at this store to show your support. Yes, gun extremists will boycott but it won't effect the store that much (and the next black Friday sale they will be right back to shopping there anyway) because there are A LOT more people (including responsible gun owners, law enforcement, and vets!) in favor of gun control than there are against it because guess what, most Americans don't want to be sprayed with bullets in the back of the head while at the movie theater watching the next Minions movie with their kids! Imagine that! The majority is being ruled by and forced to live with ptsd by a very small (and very radicalized) segment of the population, many of which homeschool their kids anyway so they couldn't give a flying fk what goes on to YOUR KIDS in traditional school settings, and we've had enough! I've heard parents say their kids told them they don't trust the fire alarm at school because it could be a gunman trying to lure them out to shoot them. So these kids have to make a quick decision, either take a bullet to the head or face a possible fire. Is that not gutwrenchingly heartbreaking? Is that what we want for "the greatest" country in the world?? These kids are the ones who are suffering from anxiety and it's because WE'VE ALL dropped the ball, sat by mass shooting after mass shooting, desensitized, and offered nothing but thoughts and prayers and went back to watching reality tv and debating the appropriate color of Starbucks cups. Time for change.

Me too. I support our 2A rights but I also think it doesn't hurt to revisit how things are done.

Same here. I support gun rights and I even support some reasonable gun regulations being implemented (even though I don't think it will do anything to stop mass shootings).

D1ck's can do whatever they want. That is the beauty of a free market. And I'm sure small business gun shops are thrilled about this because they are about to make a lot more money.

I wouldn't boycott D1ck's because of their decision, because they are a private business and should sell what they want. I'm still trying to figure out though whether limiting purchases to 21 years of age is discriminatory.

I just heard Wal-Mart is going to use the 21 year age minimum too. I'm shocked.

Def thrilled. Nothing says joy and prosperity in their industry like dead kids.

I don't see how raising the age is discriminatory.

Is it discriminatory to not sell booze to people under 21?
Or not letting them gamble?
