Daycare parents
DD's daycare had a Halloween event yesterday that I took off from work for to attend. None of the parents speak to each other. There's one mom I've said hi to about 10 times and been ignored so I've given up on her and thought she was just rude but it's all of them. It doesn't seem to be me since I didn't see any other parents saying a word to anyone else, either. I told a bunch of parents how adorable their kids looked in costume and they just mumbled "thanks."
It think it's completely bizarre. Even DH noticed it yesterday and agreed and he tells me I overthink everything. Are they afraid I'm trying to befriend them? I'm not looking to have a full on conversation but is it so hard to say "hi" instead of awkwardly standing there?

Re: Daycare parents
yeah that is weird. Especially since it's ALL of them and not just a few.
I mean, I'm as anti social as they come and even I can make small talk if need be at an event like that!

Daycare parents
At my DS daycare we have been with the same parents for 5 years now and we see each other at birthday parties throughout the year. I wouldn't say we are best buds but we are all nice to each other and chat.
It might be the area you are in. 99% of DS daycare is local so we run into them around town etc. Small town so you can't be hide.

I am completely anti social and would find any excuse not to talk to any of them. I always get stuck with the parents that want to make a ton of small talk and I never know what to do/say.

I'm no social butterfly, either. But this was a bunch of parents standing around in silence. I'm not there to make friends, I don't want these people as friends (its pretty apparent that they suck) but it seemed so awkward to me to just stand there. WAY more awkward than just saying hi!

Yeah, that's strange and super awkward. My DD"s school had a Halloween parade yesterday in the schoolyard. All the parents were lined up at the fence watching and we were all smiling at each other, making small talk, etc.

I don't think you're overthinking it. That is very strange! My kids have been to 2 different daycares and all of the parents are friendly with the each other (smile, say hi). I know some are clicky and very chatty among each other. I have never seen them all stand around and not say anything. Especially when all of the kids are dressed up and looking super cute.

Daycare parents
I thought the same about my daughter's. I rarely see parents bc I always dropped off and picked up later than them. The first time I saw anyone was at the Christmas party last year, after DD had been going for over a year. No one said anything to me and it was obvious that they all knew each other. So not friendly to anyone but their group.

Very weird. I have been at the same day care for 3 years. All the parents talk. In fact many of us get the kids together outside of school and we have become friendly. I couldn't even imagine standing in a room with parents of other kids in my child's class and no one talking

Re: Daycare parents
I'd definitely say we became friendlier as the kids starting having bday parties (around 3 yrs old) but we'd certainly chat a little when in the room together! I think what you're describing is a little Bizarre!

THIS is so bizarre because this is exactly what I deal with yesterday too! It was so awkward! I happen to be pretty social and made lots of new Mommy friends by striking up conversations with other women in infant classes on maternity leave; however, I have nothing to talk about with other parents in my infant's day care class. It also happens that most of the other families in our class are from outside the US so it may be a cultural thing. I was cracking jokes yesterday and nobody said anything back. I also complimented one woman on the chocolate cake that she brought and I swear, I didn't even get a thank you.

Hahaha, no. But she does go to a large center, maybe the bigger the center the ruder the parents?

Re: Daycare parents
I have similar experience. I chalk it up to overtired overworked parents I assume they feel like I do - hit by a truck

I think it is weird. I know a couple of the parents in my DS' daycare class personally (pre-kids) though so we always talk.

Re: Daycare parents
I find this odd- at least say "hi" back or something. I haven't interaction with the parents at DD's daycare (my mother drops her off at daycare while I take my son to school) but she has been invited to a couple of bday parties coming up so I am assuming at least some of them are friendly!

Nah I used a large center and peopel were friendly. Like not overly, let's get together for coffee friendly, but at events like described they would chit chat or at least answer you if you spoke.

They are probably all standing there thinking to themselves...If I had the luxury of taking off work for a parade of toddlers I wouldn't need to pay for this expensive daycare.
Well at least that's what my RBF would be thinking

Re: Daycare parents
OMG! Do our kids go to the same daycare?! LOL I noticed the same thing at my LO's Halloween party and at Meet the Teacher night. I did notice the parents that were there didn't interact with one another (even when I tried), but then again.. the party was overwhelming. It seemed at any given moment a child was crying, sick, or running all over the place.

Re: Daycare parents
My DDs school is like that. When DD was in toddler house the parents would come pick up their kids and all attention and focus was on the children. They didn't say hi. I soon realized it was kind of the thing. When DD went to the preschool program it changed a little. The kids did a little more on their own so the parents stood back a little which created a little more conversation. It's still very centered around the children.
