Daycare near home or work?

When looking for a daycare, did you look closer to home or work? And why?

I just started looking by my place, but options are limited, so I wanted to branch out a little, but I don't know if it's a good idea to look by work.

Home. While yes you can move you are more likely to switch jobs.

There are also days I work from home and I still send DS to daycare cause I'm paying for it. I'd hate to have to drive far.

Daycare near home or work?

By my home for two reasons:
1. I wanted DH to be able to help out with drop off and pick up if necessary.
2. If I have the day off work, but still need to use daycare, I would not want to have to drive 30+ minutes out of the way.

This is exactly why I am looking for daycare close to home.

Home. One, if you're sick and need to drop DC off, it's closer. Two, if you change jobs, you don't have to take daycare location into consideration when finding a new one.

Daycare near home or work?

I was torn between the 2 choices both had positive and negatives to it. The biggest negative and really the only one close to work is what PP said it sucks if I want to work from home or take the day off to do something and I have to drive by my job to take them. Esp. now I only send my youngest 2 days a week and my oldest goes 5 days a week and i work from home 3 days. Granted I only work about 20 minutes away. I went with the one with work for several reasons. best one was that I got a 10% discount for going with them. I work 8-4 so I didn't want to have to pay early drop off the one by work is literally across the street so I leave daycare exactly at 8 and go to work. I didn't want to have to worry about traffic and getting to daycare in time if I am running late/ had to stay late etc. all I have to is go across the street so I can leave work at 5:50 and be there in time. another thing is my ped is closet to work so I like that I can make an appointment during lunch and take them quickly or right after work.

Daycare near home or work?

Home

1. Less traveling for her
2. Closer to home meant EITHER of us could get to her not just one or the other. We never drew lines on who was the 'major' care taker.
3. Less worry about weather - Snow, floods, etc. Getting her to daycare was always easy and quick since it was close to home. (Same applies for traffic)

Heck I bought my house because its close to the elementary! LOL

Re: Daycare near home or work?

I prefer home. Reason being when she was super tiny I wasn't a big fan of driving long distances with her in the car. I know I'm crazy but I just didn't like it. I am paranoid like that.

Also, I love the fact that it's close to home so if it's snowing, I can just drive her the less than a mile through my neighborhood (The daycare is in a shopping center attached to my development) to daycare then go work from home. And if they close early, I can just go get her up the road
Also great if I am home sick and want to put her in daycare so I can rest.

I work from home a lot so it's MUCH easier to have the daycare close to home.
If i had to drive her to a center near work, it wouldn't pay to work from home kwim?

Re: Daycare near home or work?

I actually did both and I prefer near home. If I am sick or staying home and want to put dc in daycare, I would need to drive all the way to work...who wants to do that.

Daycare near home or work?

I did both because my job has daycare in the building I work in (plus we get a discount for using it). I loved having him nearby during the day and I could visit on breaks and lunches. It made for great bonding when he was a baby. But then he got older and the separation anxiety kicked in and I couldn't visit anymore. I have a lonnnng commute and after the awful winter we just had, I gave up. We switched him to a daycare close to home and it's much more convenient. Before, if I had to take time off for my own dr's appt or something then I had to make alternative plans for DS. Now I don't have to do that.

He is near home. Work is 15 minutes away, but I am looking to change jobs. And my mom is 5 minutes away.
