Daycare Cost
So we are considering relocating back to Long Island and I am trying to wrap my arms around a reasonable budget. Could anyone share with me what we should expect to pay per week for full time daycare for a 1 year old and a 4 year old at a chain-type daycare center? We will likely be in Nassau county - Williston Park, Plainview or Bellmore areas if that matters.
Currently we are paying $504 a week for this and not sure how much more it might be in NY. Feel free to PM if you'd rather not share here. Thanks!

When I looked into full time day care for my twins ( I needed to pay full time because of my rotating work schedule) it was about $625 a week for 2 infants. I went with an in home sitter because I truly only need about15 hours a week of care. I looked at one center that had multiple locations

I paid just over 300/ week for one at a chain. But those prices have probably gone up since he is in school now. The one year old will be more expensive probably. We went down in price once they were potty trained.

Most of the places in those areas charge monthly fees. I'd say about 1500 for the 1 year old year old and 1300 for the 4 year old.

I pay $1400 a month for one child (she’s 2). It’s not a chain but it’s a large center.
She went to a chain as an infant/younger toddler and it was $1200 a month until she turned a year and then it was $1100 a month.
ETA I looked at just about every daycare in south shore Nassau and these prices were pretty typical. I work on the north shore and my coworkers have said that their daycare costs are about the same as mine.

That's about what I'd expect. We're in a large center (not a chain) but pay an hourly rate which works for us since she only needs care half day everyday. We pay about $800 for the month, but I would expect it to be about $1400 for full time.

We pay $559/week for an infant and a toddler ($315 for infant, $305 for toddler and then a 20% sibling discount on the toddler's rate). Not a chain, but a center.
We went to the chain by us for a few months and their prices were a little cheaper because it's a larger facility/more kids, but it wasn't well managed so we ended up going back to the smaller center and paying a bit more. We looked at a few places in our area and most ranged from $300-375/week per kid.

Ok so seems the prices are pretty much in line with what I was thinking. Do most of the centers have a wait list? Will I have trouble getting in somewhere with 1-2 months notice?

We had to wait maybe 3 months. I'd definitely apply sooner rather than later.

The really good ones have wait lists that are longer than 1-2 months. My sons old daycare Has a long wait list but it also varies by the age of the child. Infant spots are tough because of the ratios

Depends. We were able to enroll DD within a month at her current center because she was going into a toddler room and it was summer. Toddler rooms tend to have shorter wait lists (at least that’s what i’ve seen).
The wait lists when she was an infant were several months long.

Some of the larger centers won't have a waiting list, particularly for the older kids. I don't think you'll have a hard time finding spots.

Re: Daycare Cost
I paid almost $30K a year for two in daycare. This was a calendar year from Jan-Dec.
Daycare prices are out of control.
Most likely daycare centers is the cheapest you will find it. At least for me, it is.
People working off the books want more than what daycare center charge a week which to me is insane esp. Since its off the books!!!

Yes I found this to be true as well, which is why I went with an actual daycare.

I feel your pain, we pay $2,200 a month currently in Virginia and it looks like if we do come back to LI that will even go up a little more. My oldest is turnging 4 in June so I have about 1 more year of the double daycare payment before getting a little bit of relief!!

We also pay around $2400 for 2 kids and imo it is worth every penny. I love my daycare. My girls learn so much and have the best time. They also have 2 meals a day and snack. I will be so sad when they move to real school.

my daughter goes to daycare in Wantagh and we pay $330 a week. i think a second child would get a 10% discount. but it goes down once she's potty trained to $285
