Daycare monthly cost?? Normal??
My son is two years old.
He goes to daycare five days a week from 7:45am - 4:45pm (give or take)
I pay $1,400 a month. It would be $1,250 but I need early drop off (early drop off at this daycare is considered anytime before 8:30am)
Three people at work with kids who are all around the same age as Jude and go to FT daycare said I'm paying a crazy amount and I'm getting ripped off and looked at me like I'm nuts. Am I on glue or is this normal??
I mean, give or take a hundred bucks or so --- but they acted like it was a HUGE difference.

Sounds average/normal to me. Do their kids go to a center or have a home based sitter? Centers are always going to be pricier.

We pay $190/week for 3 days (8 hour days)...it would be $325/week for the 5 days (or, $1300). Nassau county, small in-home day care with 3 providers and max 10 kids....

Daycare monthly cost?? Normal??
Mine is in line with what you pay. I pay $300/week for full time, 5 days, which includes early drop off and late pick up and all of his meals. He's 3 and at a large center. We're in mid Suffolk. I work in Queens and I do hear that daycare in general is much cheaper in Queens than in Suffolk so maybe it depends on where you work? And like the PP said, it depends on whether they are in a home based daycare or a center.

Welllll I'm going to just say SEE! I told you so! to them
I knew it was somewhat normal because I remember past threads about this and everyone seemed to be around the same - give or take County and large center vs. in-home or whatever.
I'm wondering if the people I work with send their kids to in-home, unlicensed people??
Maybe that is why?

Re: Daycare monthly cost?? Normal??
I think that's around what I usually hear from people in Nassau. Well, maybe its little on the higher end of the scale.
I live in Eastern Suffolk and we pay under $900 a month. 5 days a week - we drop off at 8:00 (though I think we could go as early as 7 or 7:30? and pick up by 5:30 - nothing after that.
It's a center - but its an independent one, not a chain.

Re: Daycare monthly cost?? Normal??
Sounds normal for a center.
We were paying $1000 a month for only 3 days a week- but 10 hour days (my center's hours were 630 am to 630 pm and there was no add'l fee to drop them off early or anything- if you needed to drop off at 630 when they opened, it was the same price as if you dropped off at 8 am)
She was also 4 years old so the rate gets cheaper as they get older...
So for 5 days a week and a 2 year old, in an accredited center- I think your rate is pretty average

Re: Daycare monthly cost?? Normal??
I paid that when my both my kids were in daycare full day. Now with only 1 child in daycare I pay significantly less than what you are paying.
Do they provide food?
ETA: This is a daycare center, not an unlicensed or in-home daycare.

Re: Daycare monthly cost?? Normal??
When I go back to work, I'll be paying $360/wk for M-Th 9-5:30 for 2 kids at a licensed and insured in home daycare. So, $1440 a month for 2. They're really great. My 19m old never wants to leave lol. This morning she tried to shut the door on me when I was leaving after dropping her off and she's always talking about her friends. I'm amazed with how much she has learned.
ETA: I bring her breakfast and supply them with diapers and wipes. They provide snacks, lunch, milk, and water.

i send my son to an in-home, unlicensed person and i pay much more than you a month. Granted, mine is there 11 hours instead of your 9..
I know mine is on the higher side, but its well worth it to me to have him be 4 houses away from us, and she will keep him late if we're stuck on the train etc.
you are paying the average.. don't let those other mom's make you think otherwise!

For a big box type of daycare I think that is pretty standard.
We use a small home daycare, licensed though and pay 150/week for full time. That includes breakfast, lunch and snacks.

Daycare monthly cost?? Normal??
Normal. I pay 1540 for 7am to 4pm (ish) for my 16 month old. Unfortunately their rates went up last year and the old rate for the infant room is the new rate for the toddler room so that's what I will be paying until June. This is in mid south Nassau.

Re: Daycare monthly cost?? Normal??
Normal. We pay similar on Long Island
I've noticed some people's reactions, especially with money, can be strange. Like wow, you pay so much more than me but the difference is only 50 or 100 bucks.
My mom does this. She acts like paying 5 cents more for a gallon of gas will send her to the poor house
Also, people gripe so much about expenses but think nothing of discretionary spend. Omg you spend 100 on daycare/bills/necessities, but dropping 100 on a months worth of Starbucks is nothing. KWIM.
