Day one of floors - sanding/fixing (update: finished)

Came home only the living room and dining room were sanded and a few boards were replaced. He still needs to get in the front bedroom's closet and sand the bedroom and hallway.

Here it is so far:

Pre-sanding then sanded

UPDATE: There is an update scrolled down of the first coat poly (was lazy and didn't want to edit my OP) so we are all finished. What I can say is its soo much better. Its not perfect but your never going to get perfect on 50+ year old floors that we discovered were put down wrong) Note for people installing floors - run the opposite of your sub floor boards not with them! Prevents from cracking, spaces, popping up and strengthens the floor.

He did crack one saddle he installed but will be back to fix it - he knows my BIL so i know he is going to pull through on that. Joe really did a incredible job so happy with the results and the fact we stayed here the entire time and walked on the floors in the evening with bare feet and nothing was wrong. I just recommend it if you can stay away do because we do have a few cat hairs embedded in the poly now that was cause from our cat sneaking out at night and laying down on the floors. Its like five hairs so no biggie.

So definitelyuse this guy plus he was the least expensive and he installs - does high end work as well saw pics of a double inlay that was a checker board affect in a job he did just sooo cool!

Please tell him Jenn recommended him.

Classic Custom Hardwood Floors

Just talked to the guy this morning that was his "jump" point where the color was different and it will be sanded and even today. He had a hard time since there was a wax (old way of doing floors) and he killed tons of sandpaper so the first layer of poly is going on later (around 12) but he still claims its fine to walk on the floors as long as its nothing nuts.

Re: Day one of floors - sanding/fixing

So yesterday got home the floors were a bit tacky and i did walk on them with bare feet, jacked up the heat to 73 and waiting a hour and then it was dry to touch. Got into the bedroom waiting another hour and dh and i left the house for a few hours for a wake/dinner and came back and we walked on them just to look around. NO SHOES THOUGH!

No imprints from what we can tell, the guy came this morning and said it was only tacky because he finished up later then he though he would. Today he will be out by 9AM so by 5 it definitely will be fine with the heat cranking. They look BEAUTIFUL!!! I am so happy!!!! So by tomorrow night we will be all done, stay off of them as much as possible until we put kraft paper down on Monday and start wiping down walls and painting on Tuesday.

As far as the smell it really isn't that bad. I mean if your closed off in a room that has been shut off from it you don't smell it at all but if your standing in our kitchen you can smell it but its nothing that bad. I guess if your sensitive to chemicals then you would have problem (i am used to chems from working at a print shop)

Here it is yesterday!
