Day care vs stay at home Mom

What do you plan to do when LO is born? We were thinking daycare but the more we talk about it, it looks like I will be staying home for a while.
We wish we had family close by, but unfortunately we don't.

Day care vs stay at home Mom

I was laid off 2 yrs ago. If I went back to work (wouldnt make as much as I did) now & paid for full time daycare I wld be bringing home close to nothing. Its more economical for my family for me to stay home. I don't have family close either. If you can afford it & wont go crazy do it..stay home. Good Luck :)

Day care vs stay at home Mom

We're sending DS to day care. DH and I talked about it and he left the choice up to me... I love my career, the company I work for and don't want to give that up so I decided I will be going back.

If things were different and I wasn't that happy at work or if after factoring in day care I wasn't going to be bringing home much I probably would have made a different decision but since day care only cuts out a small portion of my salary I can't see giving up the rest.

It's a tough choice but only you know what is best for you and your family!! Good luck!!! Chat Icon

I'll continue to be a SAHM! I've been one for 6 years! However now I am back to school to become a nurse so its chaotic.

I would not trade one minute of the time I was home..I am so so thankful to have been home with my sons!

Day care vs stay at home Mom

I work part time so that my DS is only with a babysitter once a week...however i may be going back to work full time once this baby is born cause i got a great job offer, if that occurs my DH will go part time so they will onyl need a sitter that one day otherwise its too expensive

Day care vs stay at home Mom

Financialy I will have to go back to work, but luckily my mom is pitching in and I and my husband are rearranging our hors so the amount of childcare we will need will not be that much.

My sister in law doesn't know about LO yet but I'm sure she wouldn't mind being a babysitter (she does it for a living) Chat Icon

Re: Day care vs stay at home Mom

Probably we are going to split time between family care (MIL) and daycare. Possibly a nanny at first and daycare when LO is a bit older. For now I'm planning to go back to work full time, I work at a school so I have pretty decent hours and all the breaks off, which makes things easier. Eventually I may cut to part time or even SAHM but for now that's not the plan.

We are sending LO to day care. Losing my salary is not an option for us and I have established myself pretty well in my career that it would only make things more difficult for us if I were to give it up. I also work for a great company, which is super close to home. Family watching DS is not an option.

I am totally ok with day care though, I think they learn so much there. In a perfect world I would be a millionaire and I could be home.... in an almost perfect world I could work 3 days a week and spend a couple extra days with LO... but unfortunately these are not options for us!

Day care vs stay at home Mom

If we were to stay in our apartment forever then I would say that I would probably just be a SAHM but being that we want a house (and DH is really cheap and doesn't like to spend money so my salary is my spending money HAHA) I will eventually go back to work. I got laid off August 31st and with our union I will lose my benefits if I am out for 52 weeks. I can easily go under DH's but there is more that goes along with that so I'd much rather just get back to work before the year hits. Just sucks that will probably be about 4-8 weeks after giving birth.

I wanted to do day care but we are both in the construction field and need to be out of the apt by 530/6 it just doesn't work as places aren't open that early. So we are splitting the role between my mom, MIL, and hopefully a friend who lives close by. Depending on what job I get I might be able to have my days Sunday/Monday or Friday/Saturday so I can take one day during the week.

Re: Day care vs stay at home Mom

My son (now 2) went to daycare when he was 8 weeks old and although it was hard it has been the best thing for him. He knows a lot and is very social and I thinik its because of a mix of daycare and my husband and I.

This baby will also go to daycare but not until she is older since I have off all summer.

My mom will be watching the LO once I go back to work. I have a flexible work schedule and can accomodate her whenever she can't for whatever reason.
