Daisy21's IVF Journal *Final Update - BFN*
So I am using the downtime I have today to write my IVF journal. I’m using Flowerwife’s Journal as inspiration. Thanks Flowerwife! I find the journals so helpful, so I hope mine helps someone. I know it will help me to write it all out. So, thank you for reading!

TTC: We have only been trying for less than 6 months, but we were hit with more bad news than we expected. When we started, we went straight to Dr. Braverman because I knew I had PCOS. I’ve always been terrified of having issues when it was time for us to conceive. We had planned to start slow and strictly go with timed intercourse. In the course of the first few months with Dr. B, we learned that I have several Thrombo issues (homozygous for MTHFR C, 4G Polymorphism, low Protein S). My immune testing came back normal, but my DH’s sperm count came back at zero. We went to see Dr. Schoor and found out my DH has CBAVD(Congenital Bilateral Absence of the Vas Deferens). This is basically a mild form of Cystic Fibrosis and our only option is IVF. They will use TESA to extract my DH’s sperm. The CBAVD is much more complicated than I am making it seem here. If anyone ever has any issue with this, please feel free to FM me. We’ve been on an emotional roller coaster, but we’re feeling really positive and excited to get started.
Here is the plan to date:
I was on the pill for the entire month of September because I had a cyst after our first timed intercourse cycle(before we knew about the CBAVD). I continued on the pill once we found out about the CBAVD until we had a new plan of action. When I went in to start the IVF, I broke through the pill and had a follicle. Perfect – now I ovulate on my own? I went back on the pill for another week and a half. I went back on the October 15th and began stims.

Monitoring Day
I’m actually so excited about starting. DH and I are feeling really positive. I just hope we don’t have any more roadblocks. My biggest fear is that there won’t be sperm when they do the TESA. His sperm aspiration will be the same day as the egg retrieval. I just hope it all works out. They are assuming there will be sperm, but there is no way to tell until they actually go in. Dr. B would prefer we get them the day of and not freeze them in advance. So we’re crossing our fingers everything works out.
10/19
Went in today and I think everything looks okay so far. I had about 15 follicles on one side and 10 on the other. They were all still around 10mm. There is one that is larger, but Dr. B didn't seem too concerned about it. Did that happen to anyone? I asked him if everything was "good, bad, neutral?" and he said neutral. I just feel super nervous. I just want everything to be as good as possible.

Monitoring Day
I first need to share the best news of the day! My husband has CBAVD(In simple terms, a mild form of cystic fibrosis.) We had no idea until TTC and I also have CF in my family. A couple of years ago, I had testing done to see if I was a carrier. It came back negative, but in light of my husband's diagnosis, I wanted more thorough testing. We had the most extensive testing done and I am not a carrier. We are thrilled we can go ahead as planned.
I went to see Dr. B this afternoon. All looks good so far. My lining is perfect - it's at a 10. He said I have lots of follicles all around 14. He said we should get around 20 on retrieval day. He thinks the retrieval will be Tueday. I am excited everything is moving along. I go back tomorrow.

I'm excited, but really nervous about taking all the medication correctly. I feel like I'm waiting for something before each appointment. At this point, I just want to make sure the sperm are okay and the eggs fertilize.

10/28 Retrieval Day
They got 32 eggs!! I know they won't all fertilize, but I still feel excited. I'm also really nervous about the sperm because my husband did TESA this morning as well. I'll feel much better tomorrow when I have a fertilization report.
10/29 Fertilization Report
9 Fertilized. Dr. B seemed really happy. 18 were mature out of the 32, and because of the TESA and the severe male factor issues we have, he seemed more than satisfied. He'll call me back Sunday to let me know how my embies are doing.
10/31 Embryo Update
At least 5 look really good - all grade 1 - 2 9 cell, 2 8 cell, and 1 7 cell. I'm really hopeful that they do well the next couple of days! I'm also starting to feel a bit better, so that's great too. At first I was a little upset that only 9 fertilized, but I know we have serious issues and I don't need to be greedy. I only need a couple of great embies! I would love a couple to freeze though! Please wish me and and my embies luck! We need it!
11/2 Transfer Update
Sorry the update is so late!
I spoke to Dr. B yesterday morning and only 3 of our embryos made it. One had made it to blast and the other two were on the way to blast. Dr. B thought it was best to transfer all 3, so we decided to go with it. Needless to say, I was pretty upset that only 3 made it and that we wouldn't have any to freeze. I feel much better about it now. By the time we got to AFS, one more embryo had made it to blast and the embryologist told us the third was about 8 hours away from blast. The first embryo was "perfect" - I think 4AA and the next 3AA and I don't remember the third. I don't think the doctor that did the transfer was too happy about us putting back 3, but the embryologist explained why he thought it was best too. Now we wait. Please wish us tons of luck!

Beta is negative. I'm okay. I actually thought I cried it all out the oter day, but I guess I didn't. I just don't understand why. I haven[t spoken to Dr. B yet and I can't bring myself to make the call yet. I wan't to be composed on the phone.
Thanks for all the support. I'll keep moving and doing whatever I have to do to have a baby.

dr. B was really amazing, he really managed my cycle so perfectly. although i don't know the results yet, i KNOW we had the best IVF we possibly could have had!!

well your protocol as of late is identical to mine so you get a lot of big ones!! plus AFS ICSIs them i think automatically which helps with fertilization.
