Curtains Question

I have 30x64 windows in my livingroom and I want to put up double-curtain rods for my sheers and panels (for side decor). Now most of the panels and the panels I want come in 54x95 size which is perfect length wise but not width wise. I think if I get two 54 in. the panels are going to take up too much room and block the light from coming in. I want to use the side panels for more of a decorative purpose rather than closing them to block the light, KWIM? Do you think it'll look stupid if I cut the 54 in. panel in half (I'll have my taylor do it)?

Re: Curtains Question

I accidentally ordered double wide curtains once and just had the tailor cut them in half to make two (Eric's Cleaners next to Duane Reade)

Another thing you can do it hang the rod slightly past the width of the window to create the illusion of wider windows.

That's what I'm going to do since my windows are so narrow and I don't want the panels blocking the light, hence why I don't want bulky panels on the side KWIM?

I think I'm going to try it with one and see how it looks.

Re: Curtains Question

then extend the rods that much wider...

i put up a rod that was like almost one foot past the molding on my windows because i had long skinny windows. it looked beautiful.

Re: Curtains Question

have the tailor cut ONE in half finish the ends and use that one split on each side. Don't buy 2 and have them vut 2 and then your left with 2 halves which is a waste

you can also have them seam the 2 (1 whole, 1 half) together so you don't have 2 anymore

Re: Curtains Question

My thing is that bc of the narrow window, I don't want the side panels blocking natural light from coming in. I want appx. 1 in. to cover the window and the rest along the walls. I will make the rods wider. So I guess I just answered my own question...if I get the 54 in. panel, cut it in half, then I'll have two 27 in. panels and when pushed to the side they'll take up appx. a foot on each side of the window without covering the window. I guess that won't look silly...

ETA: I also want to be able to close them (I'm getting lined panels) to block light from coming in on a sunny day or when my son is taking a nap. But I think it'll look fine.
