Curiosity....

Hello ladies,

I notice that so many women out here are finding out the sex of their babies. I am just curious to know the reasons why most people want to find out.... to better prepare with colors, to help in choosing a name, just can't wait, etc?

DH and I are not finding out because we really want to experience this surprise.

I guess my curiosity was just getting the best of me as I am interested in knowing the thought process for other moms who choose to know!

Re: Curiosity....

We wanted to decorate the room and buy some gender specific things and it was a huge surprise at the Level II, that was good enough for me and DH

I want my room to be gender specific, I want to know if I really need to go through the trouble of choosing a middle name for a girl, and I hate typing him/her (s)he all the time. Chat Icon

And I'm a planner.

I am a planner too and the queen of lists, BUT we are waiting and want to be surprised. I can't wait for the moment the baby is born and the doctor announces we have a healthy baby ____

I really just couldn't wait. We're in an apartment, so the baby will be in our room for a while, so we can't make the room gender specific. It's funny because when we went to register I thought I would pick out all pink things (we're having a Chat Icon ) but I picked out lots of yellows and greens and traditional baby stuff, just cause I like it better. I think I might wait and find out when we have a 2nd.

I did not find out for my first. It was so hard not too.... DH was so mad at me.

For me, when they announced in the delivery room, it was such a moment of intense joy and excitement that it was worth the wait. It is a joy that you could live off of......

Now I am recently preggo with # 2, (DD is 11 months) I am not sure what I will do. DH is adamant that we find out, but I'm telling you that joy was amazing....Chat Icon

Re: Curiosity....

It would drive me crazy not to know. I figured when they announce at the sonogram It's a ______ we will be suprised then. I can't even wait to find out what my christmas presents are!

Also I'd like to be able to decorate the nursery and register for gender specific things.

People always ask me "Don't you want to be suprised?' and I explain that it is still a suprise, just a little earlier.

For the people that say "you shouldnt' find out" I tell them that Fine I just wont tell you what it is!

Me and DH are both planners. I am not a fan of everything green/yellow and wanted to know so I could get the rooms ready for a boy or girl. Also, I just wanted to know!

For me, I look at it that I am either surprised at the 20 week sono or in the delivery room.

My thoughts EXACTLY!
Plus I am impatient.

nikki-- I was a Christmas present snooper my whole life. It was always my goal to find where they were hidden and what they were.

Re: Curiosity....

I wanted to know in order to buy things ... and to bond with him (like picture what it will be like to have my baby boy!)... but also because it didn't matter to me as to when I was surprised. I found out at 14 weeks and was just as surprised as if I waited until he was born.

eta: I'm pretty impatient as well!!

Re: Curiosity....

I found out because I can. DH and I take advantage of technologoy whenever we can. I was surprised, just at a different time. My surprise came at a time when I could jump up and down instead of at a time when I could not feel my legs.

I was not feeling well during the early weeks of my pregnancy. I was able to get through it by looking forward to finding out. I was counting down the weeks and I stayed focused on that. It helped me to deal with m/s and other medical issues I was having.

Now that I have seen the boy parts on a sonogram, I feel like I would have missed out if I didn't ask to see that.

I think it is great to get that surprise anytime. With my son, I knew he would be a boy and I was still surprised when he was born, about his appearance, weight, etc.

We found out cause we are an interfaith couple and it made planning easier.

I didn't find out with my son and I loved the experience. With this pregnancy I was so miserable in the beginning that I thought it would be great to know but I really wish I didn't find out and we could be surprised again. Chat Icon

Re: Curiosity....

i really wanted to experience the suprise with this one. DH and DD wanted to know, so i had them write it down on a peice of paper during the level II. Once i had that paper in my hand it VERY hard not to peek. I lasted until the next morning.
Had DH and DD been on the same page, i would have not known.

that is exactly why we are not finding out the excitement only last for so long when thy tell you at a sono apt but when the baby is actually born and you can call all your friends and family who also have been waiting so long to find it it is just more of a memorable moment

Re: Curiosity....

I never had any desire to be surprised...I personally don't like surprises. I also wanted to be able to decorate/pick out clothes that were gender specific rather than neutral. DH wants to find out too, so we made the decision together.

I never considered not finding out. I'm SO glad I did too. I had such a HORRIBLE birth experience...

when they actually pulled the baby out of me (c-section) I was SO out of it and wouldn't have been able to appreciate a moment I waited 9 months for.

We opted to find out because it makes it that much more fun to decorate the room. I'm not a fan of mint green, and yellow and beige. I found out both times and I'm so happy that I did.

There are some people who find out and their doctors end up being wrong, but we still decided to find out. I just made sure I ask EVERY time I go.."Is it STILL a girl" Chat Icon and it is..

Re: Curiosity....

I am very undecided as to this. DH says whatever I want to do he is happy (bless him) I do want to know but I don't if you know what I mean. It's still early for me, so maybe nearer the time I'll have made a decision.

Re: Curiosity....

I almost can't understand NOT finding out at the level II although i do understand wanting the excitement in the delivery room.

I LOVED knowing that i was carrying boy..that last 20 weeks of my pregnancy I'd just love looking at boy things, calling him johnny, daydreaming about my little guy.

When he was born...let me tell you..it was pure excitement. Seeing him, staring at him, making the calls to tell everyone how big he was, that he looked like daddy etc...its all exciting to me, either way you know? It didn't kill any surprise and everyone was thrilled.

Just my opinion!

Re: Curiosity....

We are buying our first place and wanted to paint the bedrooms before we moved in. Our high school and college colors were green and yellow, so we are finished with that color combo. It's sooooo nice to be able to say 'him'. I never realized how much I said 'it' (horrible, I know) or 'him/her' or 'he/she'. I really feel like I've bonded with him. Chat Icon

Re: Curiosity....

We're finding out, hopefully tomorrow at the Level II. We figure it's a surprise either way, now or a few months from now.

I guess I basically want to know, and want to stop referring to the baby as "the baby"--I'd like to think of him or her. It's less for clothing or decor. We'll probably keep both pretty neutral till the baby is born (unless the parts are VERY clear) since there are mistakes made. I'm just curious.

I also figure that I will be really out of it after delivering, and my main excitement will come from seeing the baby for the first time and seeing that he/she is healthy, not from the sex. After that, I'll probably want to go to sleep. So why not enjoy that aspect now?
