Cribs- Opinions wanted- BTDT Moms Especially

So Im doing my research into cribs and Im VERY confused! I have the baby bargains books and apparently every crib I like only gets a B, which isnt bad, but Im wondering if I should be looking for a crib with an A rating. Am I putting too much weight on what 1 book says?

Im looking for a convertable crib...

Has anyone purchased a crib/furniture from Pottery Barn Kids? How did you feel the quality was? Safety? Anything you dont like about it? How was the furniture?

What about BBB? same questions as above...

What other recommendations do you have for Cribs/Furniture thats not going to break the bank? I seem to fall in love with cribs that I cannot afford so Im looking for quality...

The only advice I can really offer is to look at "why" the crib is rated the way it is. If it gets a C rating because of small selection or made in XYZ then I wouldn't let the rating sway me one way or the other. If it gets a C due to many recalls and poor manufacturing then I would pass.

ITA. I just got that book recently to help me with my registry and sometimes they rate things a "B" when they say very good things about it but take off points for the high price for example. Doesn't have anything to do with the safety or durability etc.

The crib we are getting is rated a B+.

Yea those are valid points... It seems like the cribs I like get good ratings and then the furniture doesnt! UGH all of this is so confusing!

I did some more research into PBK Cribs and Ive read some horrendous reviews that the paint chips on them all the time and they end up being replaced and then chip again! So thats out!

Then I was looking at the DaVinci brand, I see people posting reviews that the paint peels off and gets scratched up easily... Thats just odd to me...

Has anyone purchased their furniture from BBB?? I am in love with a nursery set there and I cannot find anything about the brand/specific nursery set Im looking at...

Thanks!

I didn't get Baby Bargains....but all I can tell you is I have a set from Bellini, which is almost 5 years old and has been thru 2 babies so far. I am VERY happy with the quality.

When we looked at furniture for #1, I looked for the quality of the furniture, how sttrong and sturdy it was- was the things I would look for if I was buying a dining room or bedroom set. We purchased Baby Appleseed from Buy Buy Baby and when I got home and looked at baby Bargains, they didn't give them an A rating. I didn't let it stop me. I love her furniture. We did have a minor problem with a piece on the changing table-there was a small split in the wood on the combo months after we bought it. They said they would replace the piece of wood but they ended up replacing the entire changing combo. I like the furniture so much that for #2, we stayed with Baby Appleseed and chose a different style.

Thanks ladies! Theres so many options and so many things to look at and then you wonder if its really worth the price... And since all of this is new to me as a new mom to be, its just THAT much more over whelming! Just like trying to research and figure out which stroller will work best...

We went to Behrs and got the Munire crib and furniture- great quality. It's convertible as well.

I agree with others-- to review why the rating is the way it is. Having said that, I only looked at A rated brands when purchasing my crib 3 yrs ago. I got a Stanley Young America crib and the paint chipped and wore off very quickly, and to lower the mattress it is a HUGE PITA. I mean, huge.

BUT, I called the company when I moved it out of DD's room to see if they would do anything for me with the paint, and they sent someone free of charge to repaint the whole crib-- free of charge. 3 years after I purchased. Can't beat that customer service.

See, and we have a Stanley Young America set and haven't had any issues. Still in great shape after 3 yrs. and we didn't have a problem lowering the mattress. Guess it all depends on which set you get. I've been happy with our set on the whole. Chat Icon

I was confused as well. We ended up getting a Westwood set from bbb and were very happy with the customer service we received. The crib is great aside from DS chew marks and something stupid dh did when we renovated last year.

I agree with what other PP have stated - check why they crib/furniture got the rating it got

We purchased a Bonavita brand crib (BBB carries the brand) and almost 2 years later the crib and furniture looks brand new. I am most likely going with another Bonavita set for baby #2 due to the quality and durability.
