Crazy high fever but acting normal...

Riley had a 103.9 fever today and was acting 100% normal the whole day.

anyone else have kids that take sickness so easily? I just wonder what the hell this is...that fever is the highest one she's ever had and I'm sooo paranoid.

And we had huge plans tomorrow too. I'm gonna doubt she's fever free tomorrow...

DD had this a month or two ago she was fine but had an insanely high fever, it ended up being roseola and she broke out with the rash the next dayChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Did you give her Motrin and she was acting normal, or was she fine even without any meds?

Just a few thoughts:

I know that Coksackie goes around in the summer so watch for that. It is contagious!
My DD (14 mos) two mos ago had high fever for 3 days and finally Ped did cath and she had a bad bladder infections. Does her urine have an odd smell?

Re: Crazy high fever but acting normal...

She was fine the whole day, not complaining in any way...all the motrin did was bring her fever down.

She's sleeping but definitely uncomfortable...constantly moaning and moving around.Chat Icon I feel so bad.

Ugh there go our labor day plans...

sooo paranoid this is roseola or coxsackie

didn't notice an odd smell...she had some very wet diapers today though

Re: Crazy high fever but acting normal...

roseola is not a bad thing its a good thing that means the fevers are done its the end and this is how it is releasing it from the body. Hope she feels better soon

Re: Crazy high fever but acting normal...

DS acts completely normal when he's run high fevers in the past.

Twice its been coxsackie which he fortunately tolerates very well. Could also be roseola like you said.

I hope it doesn't ruin your plans...keep an eye on it though.

Ok, I was going to be super jealous if she had a 103.9 fever without meds and was herself all day!

When Jake has a fever he is the same as Riley, once the meds kick in, he's his usual self. It's almost as if I could forget he has the fever. However, when he has a fever AND an ear infection that hurts a lot more and I can immediately tell. He's more clingy and needs to be comforted more. Jake actually got a fever late this afternoon and we had to give motrin. He got shots 9 days ago though (MMR/V) and they said to anticipate a fever in 7-10 days. Well, day 9, he got one! I sure hope both of our LOs feel better tomorrow!

same. logan was up to 104.4 and still acting normal. it lasted 2 days, then he had a very very very mild rash. i'm the only one that could see the rash.

there's nothing they can do for roseola, just hydrate and give tylenol to get the fever down.

Liam had a similar thing on Tuesday and it was over by Thursday morning. I took him to the ped and they said it was a virus. Feel better Riley!

101.1 fever. A little whiny, not totally her usual self but she's okay. She woke up once in the night but went right back to sleep. Her fever was back up to 103 around 10:30 last night. Ugh I hate not knowing what it is.

Ive - did Liam start to have cold symptoms? Her nose is running a little bit...nothing major though.

Thanks all!Chat Icon

Re: Crazy high fever but acting normal...

If it's roseola it really isn't a big deal - yes it comes with higher fevers but my ped always tells me (my DD#1 gets 104 often) that it isn't how HIGH the fever is that worries him it is the cause of the fever that worries him and things like coxsackie and roseola both have high fevers but are not scary (although coxsackie CAN be miserable to have). If she is acting normal she probably has roseola - from what DD had and from friends and my ped except for the fever you might not think they are sick. When the fever ends she will get a rash. A pain but not the worst thing that they can contract.

Re: Crazy high fever but acting normal...

My son gets them often, with no other symptoms. There are times he is doing his own thing, playing like normal and goes to give us a hug and he is burning up. He has hit 103 & 104 when we had no idea. Doctors can't figure it out most of the tiime. Chat Icon
