I think people are entitled to the right to privacy but I am glad they are really cracking down on DWIs.

Yes, I read that in the paper. That is an excellent idea. People are already driving like a$$holes.

Re: Cracking down on DWI this weekend...
I am happy about focusing on drunk driving but not a fan of publishing their addresses.
I feel it's "endangering" their family (wife and kids) a bit by publishing their address publicly.
There are wackos everywhere who could decide on getting the law in their own hands.

Yes, but you have to look for it usually.
I don't care to see a criminal's address. I want "solutions". Stronger punishments, inability to drive if suspended (like fingerprints stopping someone from starting a car/vehicle).
I am looking for smarter technology on cars not to allow drunk drivers to drive.

But not their family.
Are they going to publish the addresses in big letters with their photos in the newspaper? Come on!!!! How is that the same as "regular" criminals having their photos published.
I am ALL for punishing drunk drivers. I have no tolerance for it. But it's not fair to their family and for their safety. I can see people taking the law in their own hands and hurt people.

I completely understand what you are saying and for that reason drunk drivers should not get behind the wheel for their families sake. Other types of criminals (murderers, rapists) are their families in any less danger when their names and addresses reported?
I know I would kill my DH if he drove drunk, I would hope most spouses felt the same.

Oh I have NO sympathy what so ever for drunk drivers. I think they should not be allowed behind the wheels and we should have stronger penalties. I don't even care that they put their life at risk. I am only concerned for other people life they are gambling with.
I just don't understand how publishing their address is going to solve anything.

So they are different from "regular" criminals? Anyone who breaks the law is a criminal. Personally, I think that they should lose their licenses forever and get jail time the first time they are caught.

My point is that most "criminals" don't have their full address posted on the front page. So why make those criminals different?
I don't want propaganda and BS to appease everyone. I want revoked licenses (not even suspended!), ways to check how those people travel if they can't drive (they usually violate the court order), real jail time, etc...

they publish the full name and address of everyone who is even suspected of a crime. these people are no different. i'm so glad they are doing this--hopefully it will stop even one person.
you give up your rights when you break the law.

Re: Cracking down on DWI this weekend...
we do this for sex offenders - why not drunk drivers?
if people are going to drink and drive - especially this weekend when the police have ANNOUNCED what they plan to do - obviously, they don't care that much if it comes out and gets published. also, they run the risk of having their names printed in the news by driving drunk b/c if they kill or seriously hurt someone most likely it is going to be printed.
like suozzi said - if they are going to potentially ruin someone's life like my brother's life has been ruined and our lives have been ruined -- then lets ruin theirs too.

Re: Cracking down on DWI this weekend...
I just updated Kenneth's thread.
I plan on posting the link to the information of the drivers on here - I hope I get lots of bump support for that b/c these people should be ashamed of themselves.
And, at the end of the day, my brother is fighting for his life and they just have their picture on the internet. They get to go home to their families - Kenneth may not or getting there is going to be a long, painful road.
The commish told us today (as I posted on Kenneth's thread) that they did this last night in ONE spot, just ONE checkpoint for a FEW hours and they arrested 44 people -- AND it was announced AND there was a big neon sign saying "SOBER CHECKPOINT" with PLENTY of time for them to go around it - I'm sorry, how DUMB can you possibly be?? You are ASKING for your information to be made public!!
Lets see how many others they will get -- and we'll never know how many lives doing this have saved... who knows, it could be someone you love.
