Re: Coming home outfits- as important as you thought?

When we had our first two years ago we didn't find out the sex but, we really thought we were having a girl so I brought a girl outfit with me and had a boy! So my parents went out and bought like 10 outfits and I chose one from there.
This time we are having a girl and that same outfit that we chose two years ago is what she is coming home in.
My advice to any new Mom is don't go crazy. You want your newborn to be comfortable.

We put DS' outfit on him and it fell right off. It was way too big.
We did hold onto it and he did wear it later on.
I will get another for DC #2 and hope it fits. I do like them.

Yes, it was important to you. After 5 weeks in the NICU, her coming home was a big deal. My mom bought her the cutest outfit and we couldn't wait for her to wear it.

we picked out outfits and forgot them in the car. Looking back, I would have NOT made a big deal about it.

NO, NO, NO!!!! Most of the time they are way too big and this time we didn't even get a good picture b/c he was moving all over the place.
For my first I went crazy looking for one and for the second my mom ran across a cute outfit and bought it.

I didn't make a big deal out of it in the first place. We didn't find out the genders in advance either time. I had bought a cute neutral outfit, but when we had a girl, my mom insisted that she had to come home "in pink." So she went out and bought a little pink dress--which still hangs in her closet because I can't bear to pack it up! For DD#2, I didn't even bother buying one...I put my mom directly on that job once she was born.

It wasn't for me. I wanted her to be comfortable above all things, so I put her in a comfy outfit from Gap that we got as a gift. It was a onesie and a coverall type thing, with a matching hat.

Re: Coming home outfits- as important as you thought?

No, its really not that important...the one I had was actually really big, b/c DD was three weeks early, So I ended up just putting her in a onesie and wrapping her in a blanket.

My mom wanted to get Steven his outfit. We spent some time looking at stuff, but didn't want to go too crazy. We will do the same if I have any future children.

No-it was important to me then and it will be just as important with the next one. For all those first pictures, etc. And for sentimental reasons: I can't believe she used to fit in that, how big she has grown, etc.

It's funny, I put so much thought into a coming home outfit but to be honest, I found it so didn't matter what the baby wore home. It's not like you're going out anywhere with the baby that day, you basically come home and that's it. I just found I put so much effort into it for no reason. A plain old onesie would've been fine. Just my opinion. Chat Icon

Nope, not even a big deal for me the first time. I went in to have him 3 weeks early and was caught off guard, so I just had my DH bring me an outfit from home that we had already washed, and DH grabbed what he could find in a bigger size...

Same for DD - we had my mom bring whatevery outfit was clean!

Re: Coming home outfits- as important as you thought?

I liked having special outfits for them to come home in. I have great pics of them in the hospital.

So no, my opinion didn't change. I got an outfit for #2 as well.

Same here! Luckily I brought two outfits and the newborn one kinda fit him (was still a little big). The original outfit was just a gift I got at the shower and the one he ended up wearing was actually a hand me down Chat Icon It wasn't a big deal to me at all. Oh and when we got home he peed all over the outfit so he literlly only wone it for the drive home Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Coming home outfits- as important as you thought?

Everything was important to me for both of my kids, including an outfit to come home in. Of course Emma's newborn size coming home outfit was HUGE on her and ended up fitting her perfectly at 6 months old Chat Icon

Not as important. Its cute and all but didn't end up mattering too much, especially since it was just me and DH at home, we wanted a peaceful day to enjoy (and get used to) her.

I wanted the perfect coming home outfit because it was something I wanted to remember and save. Some people thought I was crazy for spending as much as I did for just one day, but to me, it was worth it! I did the same for DD..

Ugh - it was important to me but i bought something sized 0-3 month instead of newborn. even newborn would've been too small though. i needed premie even though my son was born late he was small. If I have another baby i will bring a premie and newborn outfit so i have something that fits. his pants would have gone over his head they were so big.

Didn't work out for us - Alex was born a peanut at 6lbs so nothing I had bought fit her and she looked absolutely ridiculous. I had to leave the hospital and go straight to BRU to pick up some preemie outfits!

Same here- her outfit was swimming on her! This time I am not so concerned. There wasn't anyone waiting to see her either- just my Dad at the time so I don't know why I cared so much.
