Colds and Nursery School

So 2 days...yes 2 days of nursery school and DD has a bad cold.

That hit fastChat Icon

Anyway. She has school tomorrow and I am keeping her home. She has a runny nose and sounds congested. VERY congested. No fever.

I am keeping her home no question but curious....what does everyone else do about colds and school?

Three days in and DS got a cold. Runny nose and cough. No fever. No diarrhea. Appetite fine. Energy level fine. I sent him to school.

What is your school policy? My old and new nursery school asked that you keep your kids home when they have colds. I like it personally. Most parents say their kids are much healthier with this policy.

I kept my ds out each time he had a cold ( never had fever) by the time january rolled around, he missed half the school days!

My rule has since changed, no fever, go to school

See this is why I like the schools policy since people stay home they rarely get colds or sick bc things aren't going around the class. Whereas friends whose schools aren't that way they do have colds all year since they go with them and it just goes around the class.

If DS has just a runny nose and no fever, he goes to school. If he has a runny nose and is lethargic or cranky from lack of sleep the night before, then I keep him home.

My DS is in daycare and we send him with a cold. If he has a fever then he stays home but if I kept him home everytime he had a cold I would never go to work.

same here.... if dh and I didn't both work full time, then we'd have the luxury to keep him home more.

I don't know, I kept ds home every single time. As soon as he would go back he was sick again. I'm not sure if it was something in the classroom, or if sick kids were going to school. My PED said if he doesn't have a fever he should be in school. Not sure how I feel about that either

I'm just hoping for a better year this time around

See for us we get one or two colds a year now with kindergarten she will have to go if she has no fever. So I expect we will have a lot more. I think it is a lot different in that they were/are in private a nursery school. I don't mind keeping DD#2 home if it means she is sick less often. I think it is very different when your child is in daycare or kindergarten on up. To me a 2,3 or 4 program is like an extracurricular activity. But when you are a working parent or in full time school you really can't keep them home unless they
have a fever.

There are also runny noses from allergies and runny noses from colds too. I do keep home for colds but not for allergies.

Unless you're a SAHM it's unrealistic to keep your kids home for every little sniffle.
