CMV
I am a nurse and I was just in contact with a patient with CMV virus..The worst thing possible to get when pregnant. I had to have titers drawn to see if I am positive. If I am positive, there is a very big chance the baby will be retarted, blind, deaf or be stillborn. I am 29 weeks preggo and that is the worst time to contract the disease in the 3rd trimester-the highest chance of transmitting it to my unborn baby. My husband is mad at me because he doesn't feel like I used enough precautions at work, and isn't being supportive at all. I don't know what to do with myself and need ::

What is Cytomegalovirus (CMV)?
CMV is a common virus that infects most people at some time during their lives but rarely causes obvious illness. It is a member of the herpes virus family. Other members of the herpes virus family cause chickenpox, infectious mononucleosis, fever blisters (herpes I) and genital herpes (herpes II). Like other herpes viruses, CMV infection can become dormant for a while and may reactivate at a later time. The virus is carried by people and is not associated with food, water or animals.

Re: CMV
I contracted CMV during my pregnancy also. I was told by my DR (i was high risk) that it was only harmful to contract during the first trimester. I was told the same things, and they did many sono's that showed my dd was "below average" in size during my last trimester. DD was born at 6lbs 15 oz and 21inches. And she is a perfectly healthy 6 year old that can see, and hear (although she doesnt listen). They did bloodwork as soon as she was born, and also did hearing tests before she left the hospital. I hope that helps ease your nerves a little..

Thank you. It was a rough last 4 weeks of pregnancy. Many tests, i was at the doctor 2x/week for about 4 hours each time. But the baby's health was most important. Unfortunately, there isnt much the mom can do in a situation like this.

Re: CMV
Wow, how horrifying. Don't blame yourself, I am sure you had done everything possible esspecially since you are pregnant.
Your husband should not blame you for anything - things happen.... But unfortunately DH's do that sometimes when they get upset and nervous. Not to give him the benefit of the doubt but maybe he over reacted because he is scared. I don't know him - just a guess.
Do you have any friends that you can turn to to help you through the ordeal? It sounds like you could really use a support system.
Good luck and keep us informed. I'm sure that everything will be just fine.
