Closing on Tuesday
It is finally happening. My family home will no longer belong to us as of Tuesday afternoon. I was the only one of the 4 children in my family to be born and raised in that house.
3 of the 4 of us will be there. My sisters are the executrixes of the estate so they HAVE to be there. I WANT to be there for closure. My brother cannot make it. I hope it goes smoothly and quickly. I also want to be there to learn how a closing really works as we will be buying our own home in the very near future.
I get a burning feeling that the people buying this house are not nice to deal with which makes it that much harder. We all so desperately wanted a nice, warm family to move into this home and fill it with the quality of memories that we had growing up. But with every transaction between attorneys and our realtor, we are learning that they are in fact dishonest and yes, SLEAZY. I wanted to leave this family a letter of good wishes and blessings, but frankly, I don't think they deserve it. This would have broken my parents' heart and our saving grace is that they were not alive to see this all go down. It would have made them sick.
We've already wated a long time to sell. We are not getting anywhere near the original asking price and we've made peace with that as it actually is costing us a lot of money per month to maintain the house at a bare minimum.
I had wanted to go there one last time but I don't know if I can. Maybe it is because I miss Mom and Dad that much more and the place that defined us as a family unit is no longer ours. We still have Dad's business which continues to provide for us on some level, but it is not where we called home. I think I am going to be a sobbing mess on Tuesday.

Re: Closing on Tuesday
I'm glad you will have closure on Tuesday, whether positive or negative, it will be what you need. Perhaps your parents would feel that they would not want the house to be a burden on your family....good luck with everything...this could bring about a new beginning for you and your family

Re: Closing on Tuesday
Yeah truth be told "WE" aren't losing. We didn't pay for the house. Mom and dad paid only 35K on the GI bill in 1964 for a 3 bedroom split. Now it is a 5 bedroom split and though we arent getting a great price, it is still providing so much for us. We will be able to put down at least 20% on our home no questions asked.
I hope our search is quick and painless and we can be settled before the baby comes in September - one can only hope right?

Re: Closing on Tuesday
I am glad, and am sure your parents would be, too, if they knew that you could buy a home for you and your family with 20% down from this...I will hope for a quick and relatively painless purchase and closing for all of you!! Congratulations!!!!
