clomid question...

So if I take the pills day 5 to 9...then have sex every other day 10-20....is starting day 20 the start of my 2ww?

And also I have to go for blood on day 23...now do I not take a preggo test after the 2 weeks or when I get results from blood test do they do a preggo test and they would tell me if I was?

Just trying to know what's ahead for us

Re: clomid question...

are you being monitored at all on clomid??
if you arent going to the doctor right after finishing the pills, the answer is no. you really need to see a doctor that will monitor you. otherwise you wont know if it did anything until CD23. clomid doesnt work almost as often as it does work. most REs and a few ob/gyns will see you right after the meds to make sure you are producing follies and that its working.
you cannot just count 10 days after clomid as your O date, 10 days has nothing to do with the actual O date the doctor just wants to be sure you dont miss it if you do O. and they will not test for pregnancy on CD23 they are testing for progesterone to see if you Oed.
but i REALLLLLLY extremely highly recommend you see an RE (or if you already are) or other doctor, someone that will let you know if the meds are working during the cycle, not after the fact. it will save you a lot of time, guessing, and confusion. i promise, its well worth it!!!!

I'm not sure who your seeing either but I am also taking clomid this cycle and all i can tell you is what my doctor told me. he said to take the pills CD 3-7 (probably because i have a shorter cycle then you) and BD cd's 12, 14, and 16. I am seeing an OB not an RE so i wanted to make sure i knew what day i O'ed so I did and opk. I got my :) the night of CD14 and tons of cramping that night and morning and :) was gone by CD15 night. So I used CD 16 as 1DPO. I don't think CD 20 will definately be 1dpo and as far as the blood test I had that at CD23 too... he said it would probably be too early to tell if i was preg depending on when I O'ed but if it's implanted and your producing Hcg it probabl will... not sure if this helps at all. I will probably see an RE if this doesn't work but am giving my doctors advise a try. Good luck and lots of Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

COMPLETLY agree with this!!!! I still cannot understand why obs hand clomid out like candy without monitoring patients!!!
Reason #1 -- u may actually be wasting month after month with ur ob if ur not ovulating and ur dr continues to give u clomid..

Reason#2 u should not be on clomid for an extended amount of time. It can and usually does thin ur lining which in turn if u do get pregnant u can wind up miscarrying.. If u see a RE they can monitor u and quickly give u something to help u thicken up ur lining.

Reason #3 u can wind up hyperstiming and getting pregnant with multiples.. (by multiples im not even saying twins - i mean triplets and quads)

I can go on and on but im sure most ladies here will agree with me when i strongly encourage u to see a RE and be monitored.

I saw a OB and he did the same exact thing - gave me clomid and told me to call when i got a + preg test.. I winded up having so many underlying issues i was never checked for - miscarryed several times etc.. So unnecessary. When i saw the RE i was under constant care, made sure i was checked out completly etc... and got pregnant with ds and am now pregnant with #2

Good luck!

eta: i ovulated with ds on cd 22 so it wouldnt show up cd 23 bloodwork. It showed up on cd 29. I also took clomid on cd 3-7 which some people say that usually makes u ovulate sooner...

Re: clomid question...

Sorry for all the questions and I appreciate the feedback so much...I'm just all freaked out now..was happy to be starting it but now I'm confused...

Why do I need to go in while on meds to see if its working? What's the difference from seeing if I ovulated while on as to on day 23?...if I take the pills 5 to 9 would I ask to go in like day 7 to see what's up?..I'm trying to figure what to tell doc when I call...

I don't think my doc gave me the clomid for no reason..I am not ovulating on my own and I thought that's what this is for....

We went over all the risks and this is my first cycle on and I know u can't be on it forever..

I'm just confused and sad cause I thought this was a good thing

Okay, if you're not ovulating on your own, you NEED TO SEE AN RE.

I'm on Clomid this cycle for the first time because I don't ovulate on my own. Took the pills on Days 3-7. My RE had me come in on Day 10 for a sonogram... no follicles were there. The Clomid didn't work. I think it works the first time for like 45% of patients. If she hadn't had me come in for a sono, I would have assumed the Clomid worked, that I ovulated somewhere between day 10-16, and taken a pg test on Day 20-something. Instead, I'm going in tomorrow for a re-check and if still no follies are there, they're going to adjust and give me another round of Clomid.

Like pp's have said:

- sometimes Clomid doesn't work, and if it doesn't you need to know. They won't have you take it more than 3 times or so if it doesn't work: it carries certain risks, and why put your health at risk for a drug that doesn't make you ovulate?

- sometimes Clomid works TOO well and you'll get like 3-4 mature follies and ovulate them all out. That could mean 4 eggs sitting there waiting for DH's sperm to come fertilize them all... yikes... in that case, your RE will actually counsel you not to bd (and I've read online of some cases where they'll actually give you the drugs at that point to harvest the eggs like they would for IVF!)

Sorry we're all being such downers. I was SO EXCITED for the Clomid too. I don't ovulate on my own - and every other test shows that all my other signs are perfect - so I just assumed I'd pop some pills, ovulate, and be in the 2ww like a "normal" girl every month. That's not how it's working for me. I hope that's how it works for you, I really do! But just in case... you need to be monitored. That means going in for sonos and maybe blood at regular intervals to see what's doing down there because of the Clomid. It's a hassle, but it's so necessary.

Good luck! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

if you take the pills day5-9 you should be seen around day 10-12 to see if you produced any follies. if you havent the doc can up the meds immediately. if you have then they will be able to tell you if/when you are going to ovulate. without this monitoring you'll wait til day 23 which is after the fact, and think all is well and THEN find out that it didnt work and then have to take provera or soemthing to get AF and not be able to start again for two weeks or so. So you can go about clomid no knowing, guessing, and wondering, or you can see a doc that will monitor you properly and be fairly sure that its working or not. Because you can only do so many lifetime clomid cycles you dont want to waste it no knowing whats going on.

I am going to assume you are not ovulating due to PCOS?? do you even know why you arent ovulating?
clomid is as ineffective as it is effective for people with PCOS. you really should be seeing a doc that will figure out the REASON you arent ovulating, and not just hand you the drug that may or may not do anything for you.

im sorry if this sounds negative but you should know what is really realistic with clomid. its not the miracle drug everyone thinks it is, it has negative side effects (like ruining your lining) and i agree that ob/gyns hand it out like candy. mine did the same thing for me, gave it to me and she didnt even tell me when to come back in. i decided that day to see an RE and i never looked back. i did end up doing clomid that cycle and it turned out that i had NO RESPONSE at all from it, and i moved right on to other meds. but i wouldve waited WEEKS longer to find that out if i stayed with my ob/gyn alone.

so to put a positive spin on it, seeing a doc and getting help is the first step Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon . but you def want to know WHY you are not ovulating and have a doc that will really do everything they can to get you ovulating and pregnant. thats what an RE does while an ob/gyn is busy juggling all of their preggos and delivering babies.
