clear blue opk question

I'm trying to get an understanding of my cycle so I bought an opk (clear blue with the two lines not smiley). I took the first test last night and the lines clearly were not the same shade. Then I took three test today, one with fmu, another in the afternoon, and the third just now... All 3 were completely blank...no reference line. Waited the suggested time and followed the directions... Could I have gotten a faulty pack? Or am I doing something wrong? Is it normal to not get a reference line? I figured the reference line should come up regardless...kind of clueless here and this is very annoying lol.

Are you peeing directly on the stick or into a cup and dipping? It sounds like there isnt enough of a sample if no lines came up.

Directly. I guess that's a possibility but the instructions said five seconds, no longer. Which I did....

Try peeing in a cup and dipping. I had issues with the digital ones when peeing directly on them.
