Claiming preschool tuition on taxes
Can we claim preschool tuition on our taxes if both parents work? I believe we can, as long as the daycare provider gives us their Tax ID number, but I'm not sure. Has anyone done this?
I want to be prepared and have all info needed when we meet with our tax accountant next month.

Yes because you both work you can. Just make sure you have their tax ID #.

Re: Claiming preschool tuition on taxes
Does this mean you can't claim it if only one parent works?
DH works FT, and I own my own business but technically don't draw a salary yet --
(I think) my accountant told me we could claim any childcare/school/camp costs that were in addition to elementary school:
nursery school pre-K daycare before/after care camp (not sleep away)

do they have to be in school f/t in order to claim it? DS only goes 2 days a week but we both work full time.

Re: Claiming preschool tuition on taxes
You can claim it IF both parents work and it's used for "daycare" purposes. So if one parent is home with child (and no income) you can't claim it. I asked my acct.
ETA - Meant to say Can't claim it if one parent is home or no income

Yes!
Both parents must work, be in school, or be disabled.
ETA: It used to be that if you could prove an unemployed spouse was looking for work that was sufficient enough, but now apparently both spouses have to have earned income. Unemployment compensation does not count.
