Circumcision Worries

My DS had a bad circ and had to have it redone when he was 9 months old. I am team and I am freaking out that this may happen again. Other than my OB, is there someone else maybe a mohel who could come to the hospital to do this? Any suggestions/info would be great. TIA

We had a bris and used Rabbi Krohn.
My DS said that Rabbi Krohn does circumcisions in the hospital also. I highly recommend him.

We had the same problem with our first son. If this baby is a boy, we are definitely using a mohel. I will see if I can get the info for you.

DS#1 also had to have a re-circ so with #2, we are going to use his urologist to do the circ. The only thing is that the Dr doesn't go to the hospital so I'd have to bring him to his office & have it done there.

DS has major issues with his circumcision, I'm so unhappy with it. It's weird because all the nurses at the peds office raved about how awesome of a circ it was every time we went to the office (weird, I know) but then it reattached and when it was separated it never looked the same, then he had a horrendous allergic reaction to a cashew and his whole body swelled, including his penis and really stretched things out...my poor boy. We need to get it fixed.

This time around, we are having a boy and I want this done right, the first time around.

If I am not Jewish, will a mohel still do it for me for those who say that he will go to the hospital?

Does insurance cover that and if not around how much does this run?

For those who had a bad cicumcision- was it just a bad cut or did it reattach?

I know for my DS I had to pull it apart for like the first 8 or so months. If I didn't it would re-attach. Not a fun process every morning and night but it kept it apart.

I was worried about handing over my baby to be circumsized but my Ped did a good job- it's the care after that you have to be so careful about.

I am in the same boat. The pediatric urologist that redid DS's does them in his office when the baby is a few days old. We are going to do that.

Personally I would not let an OB do it in the hospital. If you can't get a mohel to do it, go to a pediatric urologist after baby is discharged. They are the specialists.

TOO many parents post on parenting about having to have it redone *under general anesthesia which brings it's own risks!!!* when they are older. Or having it reattach and the ped having to detach it which can be painful etc.

No need to have it done within the first couple of days of birth at the hospital. If you do want to have it done, get it done by a specialist for sure.

And for those that are unsure, the number of boys being circ'd is MUCH lower today than ever in the US, probably as a result of the studies that show it's not necessary nor is it more hygienic etc.

My OB did my first son's circ and will do it again for this one. We were very happy, although he did have a point when he was about 1 where he had adhesions. Honestly, that had nothing to do with a good or bad circ. He had one of those hidden penis's (fat pocket) so it was hard to keep it out. There was no surgical procedure involved with the adhesion's.

I think proper care and lots of vaseline this time... At least this time I know what I'm doing with the package

I never thought my DS looked right either, but has gotten much better as I has grown. I'm delivering at a different hospital this time with new doctors, so I'm a little worried.

Anyone have a Pediatric Urologist reccomendation in Suffolk?

My DS had to have surgery by a pediatric urologist for the circ but also other abnormalities. Since then I have spoken to sooo many mothers in and out of the drs office about this. In the future I will use only a pediatric urologist. They do it in the office when you get home from the hospital. If you see me son's before and after I am amazed at the difference from his surgery (again more then just a circ) but the micro surgery that had to get done they are just the best at dealing with that. The office was always filled with newborns getting it done.

ALWAYS have a Mohl do it.

Even if your not Jewish. They KNOW what they are doing, and do it well.

They see this as a commandment from G-d and a REAL responsability.

Are all Mohl's perfect?

Nope.

But they have a VAST amount more experience than "regular" doctors.

Thank you for all of your input. I am just concerned since I do not know what I am having, that I would be calling him last minute to come to the hospital. I guess worse case, I could have the urologist that did my sons do it a few days after we are home.
