Re: Christmas traditions with dc

we bake cookies for Santa
We have one specific ornament that goes on the Christmas tree first, DS puts it up and we take a picture each year.
DS gives out the Christmas gifts for everyone.
DS's godfather stops by on Christmas Day with his Christmas gift (hess truck)

We have a bunch of things we do every year, I love having Xmas traditions. Chat Icon

1) When I was a kid my mom had sewn an advent calendar that we used every year to countdown to Xmas. Every day you would hang a new ornament on the tree up until Xmas Eve. She remade the entire thing so my kids would have one too and now every year that is how we countdown to Xmas. I LOVE that they have the same tradition as me and it's identical to the one we had as a kid.

2) We also do a chocolate advent calendar, they each have their own.

3) North Pole Breakfast - We have a special breakfast every year the day after Thanksgiving to welcome back our "elf". I decorate the whole kitchen with special "elf breakfast" decorations, we read the Elf on A Shelf story and watch the cartoon, I made special "north pole treats" for them to eat, and the elf returns with a letter to the kids and a small gift, usually a new ornament for the Xmas tree.

4) We leave cookies and milk for Santa, carrots and oats outside for the reindeer, and the kids hang the special "Santa Key" on the front door before going to bed Xmas Eve so Santa can get in the house, we don't have a chimney. Chat Icon

5) EVERY year we bake Italian Pizzelle cookies (my most FAVORITE cookies in the world) using my Grandmother's pizzelle irons from years and years and years ago. Nothing makes a better pizzelle than her irons. Chat Icon

6) We take the kids out for a special pre-Xmas meal. We've always done Milleridge Inn but with everything going on over there we decided to try something different this year. We're taking them to the Three Village Inn in Stony Brook for brunch with Santa.

7) We take them to see the EAB (it will always be EAB to me Chat Icon ) Xmas tree every year!

8) We make sure to watch every Xmas cartoon and movie, I have pretty much everything on DVD. We cuddle up and have Xmas movie nights.

9) The kids decorate a gingerbread house every single year, usually on Thanksgiving weekend.

10) Every year they get special coordinating Xmas pj's............a pair for Xmas Eve and a pair for Xmas Day.

11) The day AFTER Xmas is what we call "Stay In and Play Day". We don't go ANYWHERE that day, we stay at home in comfy clothes and we just play with the kids and their new toys and it's a free-for-all eating day for the kids...........we let them munch on cookies for breakfast if they want, Xmas candy, leftovers, etc. It's such a fun and relaxing day after all of the holiday craziness. My parents did the same thing with us when I was a kid so I continued the tradition with my own kids.

12) We take the kids to Macy's to write and mail their letters to Santa.

13) We set up the video message from Santa for each kid using Portable North Pole. They LOVE it, they are enthralled by Santa talking specifically to them!!

14) The kids each have a little tree in their bedrooms. My DS has tinsel blue tree, DD has a tinsel pink.

I'm sure there is something I'm forgetting but those are the ones that quickly came to mind. Chat Icon

I bumped an old thread for you on Holiday Traditions, thought you might like to take a look. There were some really cute ideas in there from fellow LIF'ers. Chat Icon

Leading up to Xmas: DD has her own little tree, it's maybe 4' and it goes in the den. She decorates it with all her ornaments and school projects. Write letter to Santa. Handmake or paint ornaments. She gets new Xmas Pj's. Go to 5:30 mass on Xmas eve. Come home and make a seafood dinner. Leave cookies and milk, sprinkle "reindeer food" on the lawn.
