Christening gown for...boy?

Would you or did you christen your baby boy in a gown or did he wear a more "manly" get up?

I have a gown that my DD was christened in but think it might be too girly for DS.

I was christened in the same gown as all my siblings - girls and boys but that was then and this is now.

Anyone?

If I should be blessed with a boy I would definitely christen him a Victorian gown..I saw one that I absolutely love.

Ds was in silk pants suit, but it had a REALLY long jacket that went well past his feet.

Colin is being Christened in a gown...I feel that it's more traditional.

Re: Christening gown for...boy?

Thanks....would smocking at the front of the gown and little capped sleeves with pintucking make you think girl though?

Re: Christening gown for...boy?

When I ordered the gown, the catalog had boys gowns and girls gowns...the boys are very plain with little or no embroidery on them. The one I got is cotton/linen material so it's not shiny. I felt that combined with the lack of embroidery made it more masculine.

Seamus wore a gown

It was a family heriloom. It it made out of his grandma's wedding dress and his dad and 2 uncles wore it. Their initials were sewn into the front hem and we added Seamus' as well

Re: Christening gown for...boy?

DS wore a gown---my mom made it and I picked out the design/fabric so that it wasn't overly frilly---our next, regardless if a girl or boy will wear the same one

Re: Christening gown for...boy?

DS wore a gown. It was made out of my wedding gown. I used the fabric that didn't have much beadwork and it was a simple gown. If we are ever blessed with a girl I will add more of the beadwork to the gown and make it more frilly.

Re: Christening gown for...boy?

My DS was Christened in a gown too. It was bought for my brother by my Aunt 53 years ago. My DS was the 13th baby in the family to wear it. I liked the tradition and my DH didnt mind a gown so we went with it.
My mom was happy and we had my DS wear a religious medal that my DH wore when he was Christened too... Taht made my MIL happy too...

Can you alter the sleeves? I'm not a fan of puffy sleeves for boys (unless an heirloom with meaning), but that's just me.

I think the rest of the gown is perfect.

DS didn't wear a gown.

I have seen boys in gowns that weren't feminine looking. If you are concerned with people thinking he is a girl, I would stay away from puff sleeves, sequins and feminine looking accesories.

ETA: the gown Gertyrae

I did the little sailor type outfit for DS but my SIL had my nephew in a gown and it was perfect in every way. If I could have found something I loved as much as that I would have definitely done it!

IMO, this is too girly. The sleeves and trim on the bottom are very feminine to me. Sorry

i agree, and tend to think "gowns" in general on boys are VERY feminine..unless they are heirloom and have meaning, i wouldnt use it..
i made my dd's gown from my wedding dress..theres no way if this next one is a boy he could wear it..its VERY feminine looking...
Stefanie had her son (im not sure if both, but definately Nikolas) had her ds in EXACTLY what i would use with a boy..VERY masculine, very beautiful

We christened our son in alittle suit ~ I had a choice to christen our son in a gown (family heirloom) and I love it because it is so traditional but dh had some issues with his son wearing a gown. Chat Icon
