Firmest mattress possible, with the most amount of springs.

Definitely firmest mattress you can get.

We opted for a foam mattress instead of a spring one. It's lighter so easier to change the sheets, and the one we got is for newborns AND toddlers. The newborn side is very firm and has a waterproof cover. The toddler side is softer and has a regular cotton like cover.

This way when DS is about 2, I can flip the mattress to the other side and he can have a more comfy sleep since it's safe then.

We did a foam for #1 and springs for #2.

DS was not crazy about the SUPER hard foam mattress... so we ended up putting a softer cover on it.

We got the Sealy Soybean Foam-Core Crib Mattress from BRU. It was the top rated mattress from Baby Bargains Book

This is what we got as well. Ours is the Colgate Visco Classica.
