don't buy knockoffs!!! you dont' get the qualiity of the real brand.
Go to the outlets, they have great prices.
I have to disagree. I have a few knockoffs from handbag parties and they are very well made. My Louis Vuitton has actual suede inside. It smelled for weeks.

I love to get real bags when I can but right now with 2 kids, it is not a priority to spend tons of money on a bag. You can NOT tell any of my bags are fake and sometimes I forget which ones are the real and which ones aren't!!

a friend of mine thinks that most bags ppl wear are fake now anyways-and i think i agree
ITA
especially in the city.
im sorry, but its really obvious sometimes when you look at a person who is OBVIOUSLY not well off.... why even bother? everyone will know its fake
True but I just don't think that there are many people walking around with fakes that even look real. I didn't even count the obvious fakes when I said that I don't think a ton of people are wearing fakes.
When I get a chance later, I'll see if I can post some articles about the fakes being made in sweatshops and poor working conditions. There was a ton of info about this a few years ago, but it seems like the sweatshop issue has died off as a "hot topic." Maybe they are getitng them from those places now. I don't know but I bet they are.

fake bag are made in sweatshops- there are lots of articles about it
how would you feel if you designed something- then someone else copied it and sold it for 1/10th of the price?
I wouldn't be happy-

Re: Chinatown and those knock off purses....
Have bought a few in my past...not recently but would consider it again.
Actually Dh was just there yesterday but didnt see anyone but would of got me something had he seen it.
We as women change everything so who cares about a fakie bag and I do own a real LV but I also didnt buy it, I couldnt afford it! I couldnt afford 1/2 the designer bags out there!! Hence why people go buy fake ones. And I have had people be like, NICE BAG and had no idea It was fake.
So, if you go,...be careful and enjoy your bag.

one time when i went with friends, they locked us in the back of the store b/c the police were coming. we were so scared that we were going to be arrested!
but then everything was ok! whew!
This alone would encourage me to pay for a real one.
OMG me too!!!
I have never bought a fake- I have a couple of real ones- I treated myself to one- the rest were gifts I was fortunate enough to be given. I don't think I would even bother going there for a fake- and now that I read the above I would not want to b/c of the safety reason!
I would rather just buy a regular bag (what we all did before name brand bags became big) and a clothing/accessory store-- or even TJ Maxx or Marshalls... something like that. Or just a regular pocket book from Macy's or something.

Re: Chinatown and those knock off purses....
I got a fake LV bag there. It fell apart within about 6 months but it was worth the $20.
Not 100% sure but I think the cops dont arrest the buyer, but the seller.

Re: Chinatown and those knock off purses....
I wanted to buy plain black microfiber bags for my bridal party as part of their gifts when I was in Chinatown last winter. I wanted plain because my friends are bright enough to know that I do not make enough money to buy 5 Kate Spade bags at once. The lady in the store told me she would slap a little Kate Spade emblem on it for $10 more per bag.
I do not think everyone has fakes. I do think people ASSUME that everyone has fakes. Sure many and most bags are over priced, but if you are resourceful, there are ways to get the bag you want without having to go to a back room, getting locked up and arrested. No piece of LV (which I call Lousy Vinyl) is worth that.

You will be surprised. All my fakes look very real and all the ones sold at the handbag parties, you can not tell the difference.

You can buy fakes safely at parties at home.

A woman that worked with my Mother had a party and it was raided by police Thank God my Mom did not go that night but it was the "talk of the office". I actually don't even know what happened to that lady- I meant to ask and never did- she quit a few days later and that was that. I mean, I'm not saying that if you buy a fake bag you are headed for REAL danger but I would be worried to go into Chinatown- and after hearing about my Mom's co-worker- worried to go to a house party. I think a lot of people easily forget, or put in the back of their minds, that it is ILLEGAL so I mean, you are putting yourself at risk whether in a basement in Chinatown or a Living Room in Commack.

I don't get the whole knock off bag party thing- it's a crime- but yet they run a business doing it?

I know- they make it look legit but it is still illegal- my MIL went to a house once and the lady kept trying to convince her that it is "OK" and justified. I mean, my MIL didn't really care and I don't think she thinks people that buy bags are "bad people" lol I mean, I don't think that either- but it is illegal so if the house gets raided don't be shocked, ya know? Furthermore, don't try to justify it. I mean, my friend works at the Gap and said he could get me a discount on items if he bought them "for me" but then I would just give him the money- is that wrong? Yes. I would never try to say that is "legit".
So, after all that-- I don't get it either!
