Chinatown and those knock off purses....
Anyone ever get one? I was there for the first time yesterday and I really want a knock off Coach bag, the new one that is out, but I was too scared of getting caught in a raid or going to a back room for one... did anyone ever get one: what was your experience?
FYI we went to an amazing chinese restaurant there- called "Wo Hop" , the line was long we waited 1 hour, we were with friends so it went by quickly, but the food was AMAZING especailly those spare ribs!
PS I did manage to get a Pashmina scarf, and a 10.00 "bling" watch and DH got some gloves!!!

one time when i went with friends, they locked us in the back of the store b/c the police were coming. we were so scared that we were going to be arrested!
but then everything was ok! whew!

I was with my cousin and his GF and she wanted a specific bag, so she found a place that had it and we had to follow this little Chinese guy about 4 blocks away from the store to a mini van. the GF actually GOT INTO THE VAN with this guy. She ended up buying a really fantastic knock-off from the selection in the van.
Me, personally, I would never EVER in a milllion years have gotten into a van with that guy. I'm too sketched out by those types of deals.

I have a few that I've had for years! Honestly, I'm not afraid to get them dirty or use them freely. If something happens...oh well, get another one for $40.
BUT, when I bought mine, they were still hanging on the walls of the shop.
btw, Wo Hop is awesome!!!

I wouldn't bother, i love having the "real thing", not because of the label, but because I always plan and work extra hard to get it and save money for it. I;d rather buy a bag from TJ Maxx, it is safe, cheaper and you can get the real thing.

I heard they are not out in the open anymore and you have to go into apartments or back rooms- which is way too scary for me
I would save up for the real thing or buy something in the price range I wanted to spend- it's not fair to the people who design the bags- and it's against the law
and the people who have the make the fake bags work in sweatshops

i go to get my little sister bags.... its not that scary.
they cant have them in the open so some ppl will call their friend to bring some by for you to look at.
sometimes if there are no cops a person will whip a garbage bag out filled with them.
once i did have to go a few blocks over to some basement but it was fine.
theyre so easy to find. everyone is standing there saying "coach, louis vuitton, prada, gucci, burberry" etc etc
all the ones ive gotten for her have been totally fine and long lasting. cant tell theyre knock offs.
i wouldnt waste $ on the "real" thing when no one can tell the difference anyway.

The only time those bags ever look good to me is if the original is a bag that I don't know much about or haven't seen yet. I can't tell you how many people I've known who've shown me their fakes and said "doesn't it look great?" and I want to tell then 10 reasons I can tell they are fake. I haven't been shopping in china town in a while. Have the fakes improved at all? They selll fakes in my nail salon and they are awful.

My girlfriends and I went once when I was pregnant. They brought us up to some room, sat me in a seat while they came to me and showed me bags. I got special attention because of the belly.

2 chinese guys at work went w/me a few times-it was good bc they talked chinese to them lol
we went into this store, and behind this fake "wall" up the stairs into this room-
i got 2 coach and 1 gucci bag-and eveyrone says they are awesome
another time we went into this building up 6 floors, into another room-same thing
i paid 35 and 40 for the bags
its really not that bad-but u have to do it atleast once in ur life!!
a friend of mine thinks that most bags ppl wear are fake now anyways-and i think i agree

Wo Hops is the BEST! We have been going there since High School (a gagillion years ago)!
As for the purses, it can be hit or miss. This time of year I worry about raids more than others, but I have never had a problem so far (knock wood). I usually stay closer to the Mullberry street part of Chinatown.

i went this summer it was a little scary but i was with a group of people so it wasnt too bad i wouldnt do it alone because you do have to go into like a basement with the people but they have really nice bags i love my it is worth it!!

I have bought them in Chinatown before. Years ago they were right out in the open and they'd actually PUT the tag on right in front of you. It was bizarre.
But nowadays they have them in backrooms. DH went and bought me a Louis Vuitton recently and he didn't say anything about being nervous about it. All that he mentioned about it was the lady saying to him, "hey, are you a cop?"

I don't agree that most people are wearing fakes. I do believe it is possible that people have fakes and they don't even realize it. I was at a Coach outlet about 10 years ago and found a fake. Actually, the salesgirl pointed it out when I asked why the buckles on one bag were different from another bag in the same style. She said that they get fakes once in a while, maybe from returns. However, many people take great measures to insure they are not getting fakes and they go to the company store, not the outlet. ie. they will only buy a Fendi bag from a Fendi store, or a Louis bag from a Louis store.
Another reason that I am not interested in fakes is that I've read that many of them were made in sweatshops. And besides, I can now get a Vera Bradley bag for the same price or less, as a fake something else.

especially in the city.
im sorry, but its really obvious sometimes when you look at a person who is OBVIOUSLY not well off.... why even bother? everyone will know its fake
