Childcare dillemma..opinions/advice please!

So I have 2 kids..DD is 2.5 and Ds is 6 months. Currently they are with a babysitter in her home who came very highly recommended to me from family and close friends. I pay her $450 cash off the book for roughly 36hrs over 4 days a week. I pack all of the kids diapers, wipes, food and other essentials. I pick up and drop off everyday. I am starting to get really worn down and although I know my kids are safe I want more from my sitter. I get no pics throughout the day, they don't really go outside, they never do any crafts or anything and naps are always a mess. Plus my kids both have allergies and super sensitive skin and the sitter has a little dog that is beginning to affect my 2 yo. I have begun to think an in-home Nanny may be my solution to take some of the pressure off me with running back and forth and also to give my kids a little more structure and recreation with the kind of activities I want. Do you think $450 a week is enough, cash off the books for 4 days. time would be roughly 730-530 or 830-630. and where would I begin to find a reputable nanny. This has got me so twisted up right now. TIA.

Re: Childcare dillemma..opinions/advice please!

I would recommend an in-home, licensed and insured daycare.

My DD is 5 yr and my DS is 11 months and I love my place. They are there 5 days a week from 7:30-5:30 or from 8:30-5:30. They provide all table food, snacks and drinks once the child reaches that point. For my DS, I provide diapers, wipes, formula and baby food.

She has them on a structured nap schedule. They go outside every day as long as the weather is nice - even in the winter too! They do activities and crafts. My DD has learned soooo much and is totally ready for Kindergarten. She is also a certified Pre-School so I never had to move my DD to another facility.

My DD has been there since she was 12 weeks old - same with my DS.

I love that both of my kids are in an environment where they are learning and being social.

I would agree maybe a daycare (whether it be in home or center) might be a better solution if you want more structure. Most are very good with allergies as they have to be with multiple kids....and at the same time they get to interact with others. In home tend to be cheaper.

Thanks ladies. I have looked into Tutor time and Kiddie Academy(which was full and on a wait list) but they were so expensive. I really wanted to keep them in a home enviornment. I live in Lindenhurst. Can anyone recommend a good in/home daycare?

i can't recommend anyone out by you but I wanted to say that I have an in-home sitter and pay a little less than you do. It's great!

I like have a nanny at home it makes my life so much easier. I think you should be able to get someone in that range. When you do set up what you would like them to do etc.

I don't really think you are going to get pictures sent to you throughout the day in a childcare setting, even at an in home licensed place. Keep in mind that a licensed in home place can also have pets in the home as well. A nanny sounds like more of what you are looking for. I would post in the local facebook groups or search on Care.com for a nanny to come to you.

I struggled with what to do as well. We're going with a center. I wasn't comfortable with a stranger watching dd all day (recommended or not) and I liked the oversight of a center.

Are you on facebook? If so, post on the group "Childcare on Long Island". It's how I found my DD's current daycare after the one i was going to use fell through a week before I was to go back to work. DD is in a licensed in home daycare that I am happy with.

I looked at a center and it way to pricey for us. I would like to have some one in my home because it will take off the pressure off of drop offs pick ups and worries about allergies etc...its just finding someone trustworthy to have in my home..

In home licensed daycare for sure. I paid $90 less than you for 2 kids to go from 830-530, lunch, snacks, drinks provided by them, and my 2 year old has learned an insane amount since she's been there. Plus she has friends that she has made there.

I 100% understand the not wanting to run around anymore. Mornings are so stressful. I found my sitter on sittercity.com She's awesome. I was very leary of leaving my kids with a stranger in my home. I interviewed her, checked her references and just took a leap of faith. She's been terrific. My kids love her. She sends me pictures and she's always doing something with them. But its not structured activity. I'm sure if I asked her to do some, she would. I'm didn't use care.com so I'm not familiar with how it works but on sittercity, you can put exactly what you are willing to pay and let them respond to you. I actually didn't even search through the listings. I had about 10 different people respond to me and I just went through that.

My DS is in daycare and I get pics all day long. My co-worker also gets them at her daycare. The Centers do this now. An in home you might not get it.

So far today I have had 6 pics and its not even lunchtime

I am not so worried about structure but what you have is pretty much exactly what Im looking for. I posted on a FB group and got about 12 responses and after sorting through them I have found one person I am willing to interview. I will check out sitter city though. Thanks!!

There is a woman on the Lindenhurst Moms FB page that has posted a few times that she runs an in home daycare. Not 100% sure if she is licensed but i think she is, A few of her past families raved about her. I'll see if i can find it.

ETA: i looked and cant find it. But if you post on the lindenhurst moms group that you're looking for an in home daycare you may get some local recommendations.
