child care options for 5 yo +
DD has been in day care since 12 weeks old. this summer I need to start finding something else for her because she will have to switch to their camp and I am not paying $450 a week for camp. I never went to camp growing up and I didn't feel deprived. I have no intention on sending her to one unless I find an extremely reasonable one. I already pay enough for child care ( I have 2 full time) I don't want to nor can afford to pay anything more than I am paying now. I am trying to stay under $250 is this possible??!!!

Where do you live? Unfortunately most are that expensive. But, check with your school district to see if they offer something. Ours does, and it's cheap as far as camp prices go. I want to say $175 for a full week of full time care (not entirely sure since I don't use it)

I am in the Lindenhurst school district I will look into it ... I don't even care if its camp. I am thinking maybe I should be looking for in home dayccare but not sure how I feel about that since I always used daycare center.

The Town might offer something also. I live in Brookhaven, and they offer pretty cheap full day camp

Can you pull the other two out of daycare for the summer and get a nanny for all three? I know when I look on care.com there are a bunch of college kids looking to nanny at a reasonable rate for the summer...

well I only have 2 kids I meant I pay right now for 2 in full time care (sorry my post was not clear) but I was considering this. pulling my 2 year old out at least for the summers and have someone watch both of them for hopefully what I pay for the both of them for daycare now.
just a side note I honestly can believe the amount of money child care costs I wish there was some regulation. I paid over 30K last year to send the both of them.

Re: child care options for 5 yo +
What time do you need?
My daycare center automatically switches to a 'camp' program for the summer at, I believe 4 years old.
I send both of my boys to a different local camp for the summer (started last year and age 6/4) b/c I'm not crazy about the daycare center's program at all. It's $$$$$$ - but, I need a 6:45 am - 6pm option, so the normal camp hours and district 'summer rec' doesn't work for me.
My parents help me by coming in the morning and putting them on the bus (b/c bus comeswell after I leave for work), and then I pay for 'after care' (past the normal 4pm camp time) and pick them up at 6.
Depending on the hours you need, an nanny or babysitter might be your best bet. Even if you can put your older one in a summer rec type of program, and have the babysitter drop off/pick up ......?
Good luck - the whole thing is very frustrating, nerve wracking and guilt inducing!

if someone was to come to my house I would need 8-6. if I have to drop off somewhere I need 7:30-6. I am leaning more towards pulling DS for the summer and hiring someone to come to my house to watch both of them. just not sure how much that will be I did a quick look on care. com and the price people are asking for hourly would cost me more than sending them to camp!

I live in the city, but I use the aftercare program from my son's school and it is very reasonable. I pay $700 for 8:15am-6pm. For 6 weeks. However, I believe the youngest kids who can go are before first grade, not k. I'm not sure what your DC is.
I would look into the town or the school district
